There’s a dark and decadent side to beauty this autumn, says Beauty Editor Sarah Halliwell. Here’s how to get the look …
Put away those polite nudes and pinks: beauty is going over to the dark side this season. That means adding a little gothic twist, while keeping things elegant and with a soft edge. Skin is central to this look – it’s glowing and gleaming with health, with minimal foundation. Keep the vamp edge to just one element of your make-up, whether a sooty eyeliner (try ringed eyes, as at Erdem, or a soft wing) or else a deeper lip shade. The catwalks may be touting black lipstick, but let’s be realistic: rich dark cherries and glossy blackcurrants are more wearable, and can be just as dramatic. A hint of metallic or silver frost on the eyes, as at Chanel, adds a touch of moonlight; try Victoria Beckham’s kajal liner in Sea Grey.
