Wake Up To Glowing Skin

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NO7

Recharge your skin’s natural repair cycle with the new No7 Future Renew Damage Reversal Night Serum

There’s an optimum time to repair our skin – at night. Skin’s recovery is faster at night, when it is most receptive to damage reversal. We caught up with Dr Mike Bell, head of science research for No7, to learn how you can maximise this recovery.

No7 is deeply invested in understanding the science of skin and in collaboration with the University of Manchester, they have been exploring chronobiology – the study of circadian natural rhythms – and how it impacts skin health. “Night is a busy time for our skin: 64 per cent of circadian genes find their peak expression between 10pm-7am,” explains Dr Bell.

“Our molecular clocks conduct the orchestra of repair and protection in our body; all cells and organs have their own clocks. And night time is when genes are at their busiest – more genes have their peak expression time over night, including skin renewal, repair and detox.”

No7 ran a new study to understand more about skin circadian rhythms and the impact of skin damage and discovered new insights into the processes of night-time repair and day-time protection.

OUR SKIN AT NIGHT

When our circadian rhythms are disrupted due to factors such as sun exposure, age and lifestyle, it means that our skin has a weakened barrier during the day, and more damage is done. And at night, it means that our skin’s ability to repair and detox is weaker, with a compromised barrier. As we can see all too clearly when we have a bad night’s sleep, and wake to skin that looks dull and tired.

This can have a big impact on our health, including skin health. Fluctuations of these natural rhythms affect our skin’s ability to repair and protect itself, leading to water loss, decreased elasticity and signs of premature ageing, explains Dr Bell. “The skin sees better renewal and better repair if cells are synchronised – it means they have a unified response and are more receptive to repair.”

Through their research, the No7 team identified SKINSYNC technology, a potent re-synchroniser and amplifier of skin cell circadian rhythms. It works in synergy with Pepticology, No7’s unique peptide technology to maximise repair and reverse visible signs of damage. Together, they offer supercharged repair and help to strengthen disrupted circadian rhythms in the skin.

The innovative new No7 Future Renew Damage Reversal Night Serum is powered by cutting-edge technology to help re-synchronise and regulate skin cell circadian rhythms; maximising repair and reversing the visible signs of damage caused by sun exposure, age and lifestyle. Dr Bell and his team found a way to monitor our 24-hour rhythm by tagging a rhythmic gene, and then explored what could help regulate it. “We found that Lindera root, used for medical conditions for centuries, works to help synchronise the rhythm of skin cells.”

As always with No7 skincare, the new serum has been tested widely, in this instance on over 2,000 people with a wide variety of skin tones, over 28 studies. “Our results show that there’s an optimum time to repair skin,” says Dr Bell. Tests included ‘split face’ trials (trialling the product on one side of the face only to compare results). “We saw improvements in under eye wrinkles, firmness, reduced dryness and radiance over six months.”

No7 Future Renew Night Serum contains hyaluronic acid, bisabolol, vitamin C, E and mulberry extract as well as Dreamscentz Fragrance, a hypoallergenic pre-sleep relaxing fragrance.

THE FUTURE RENEW ROUTINE

The No7 Future Renew collection offers a comprehensive skincare routine, comprising of the new No7 Peptide Cleanser, the No7 Future Renew Serum (for daytime use), the No7 Future Renew Day Cream SPF40, the No7 Future Renew Night Cream and the No7 Future Renew Defence Shield.

This skincare is focused on damage reversal for your skin, from morning to night while the Defence Shield SPF focuses on damage limitation. This is the third generation of Future Renew, which first launched in 2023 with the No7 Future Renew Damage Reversal Serum containing world-first peptide technology, and represents nearly two decades of research and innovation.

N.B. Remember to use your daily SPF, such as Future Renew Damage Protection SPF50. Long-term sun exposure has a damaging effect on circadian rhythms: in sun-exposed skin, studies have shown that renewal is not as strong, and circadian rhythm is disrupted, leading to ‘skin jetlag’.
