The white kitchen units are complemented with a warm wood section which incorporates a pantry area, closed when not in use, that services the large breakfast bar. OLD SCHOOL

This gorgeous Rhatigan and Hick kitchen comes to life in the summer sun. The hexagonal mosaic tiled floor elevates the smart navy cabinetry, especially with the stream of light coming through the glass paned back doors. The reeded glass cabinetry allows the colours of the books to come through which brightens up the space further. EXTENSION TRANSFORMATION

This bright and colourful kitchen extension is a fantastic addition to a family home. The kitchen exudes warmth, light and colour and is a gathering space for the family who lives here. Like many other Victorian terraces, this house had a dark and narrow kitchen previously with no connection to the garden and the rooms didn’t work together. By incorporating the side return, Mel Architects created a spacious kitchen and dining area with a bathroom and space-efficient utility room hidden away. The arched windows with red frames are inspired by the front façade of the neighbouring properties. The views out to the garden from these windows are something the family never had and connect them to nature. The extension is now filled with light, colour and fun and ready for bright summer days to open the doors into the garden. www.melarchitect.co.uk

ITALIAN INSPIRATION

This kitchen is specifically designed in the image of Italian design – for places ready for warm weather. The kitchen extension drew from Renaissance inspiration. The homeowners had a vision of shared meals on a Tuscan veranda and so the architects drew on the style of this terraced house using classic, perfectly proportioned Romanesque arches for framed views through the house and garden. The kitchen space undeniably became a relaxed space for conversation, letting light in, and for gathering, not to mention the opportunity to open up into the beautifully quaint terrace for some summer drinks and nibbles. www.turnerarchitects.co.uk

NATURAL VIBE

This intricately reeded kitchen is from the BOSSA range at McNally Kitchens. It is architecturally designed in an industrial style. The linear ridged wood veneer (or reeded veneer as some may say) brings a natural element to the kitchen, ready for the longer, brighter days and feeling of being close to nature. The smart white cabinetry conceals the cooking appliances with industrial style open shelving keeping the kitchen feeling light, neat and orderly. www.mcnallyliving.ie

COLOUR CODE

Kitchens need not be right by the garden to be summer ready. In this townhouse, the kitchen is on the first floor and so overlooks the road. The colour and decorative objects are bringing this space to life, and fill the room with the joy that summer brings. Bringing plants in is an effective way to make the space feel closer to nature and the rattan rug paired with woven chairs creates that outdoorsy feel in the space. Clever colour and decorative design choices bring this space to life – noted. www.lonikachande.com

LET SUMMER IN

Any kitchen placed on the basement level means you will be inevitably closer to nature. A bold tiled floor and views onto the terrace gives you the feeling of extra space and an ability to double the size of your kitchen whenever the doors are open. As the main source of natural light in this kitchen, it is paramount that the windows and window-paned doors that look onto the garden are as wide as can be. Being able to open them means summer can step inside. The pistachio shade framework in this space by deVOL Kitchens brings joy and the feeling of nature into the space. www.devolkitchens.co.uk

VILLA VIBE

This all white and all bright kitchen designed by Eilish Rickard is like walking into a Grecian villa. The incorporation of the arch shape both at the stove and under the cabinets further that feeling, along with the high ceilings, marbled splashback and countertop. The gorgeous rattan runner rug placed under the sink adds a notable rustic, earthy element to the space, and the incorporation of the plants help to ground the room. www.eilishrickardinteriors.com
