These holiday dressing trends deserve some airtime …
Cooling Cottons
Cooling white cottons – with a vintage-inspired aesthetic – are still go-tos for the style set. We love the idea of a broderie anglaise top teamed with denim Bermuda shorts, for a combination of pretty and boyish. Although, when the mercury rises, an airy set of co-ords is always a preferable choice.
Sarouel Trousers
Meanwhile, balloon-shaped (or sarouel) trousers are trending. A pair in sun-friendly white or cream has appeal: see these ones as a case in point. And, while we won’t be accessorising with a silk scarf-cum-top, we like the idea of knotting one around a basket bag as a final flourish.
Lace Skirts
It seems as if a statement lace skirt is in the 10kg of every chic holiday-goer now. (If not, a pair of viral lace trousers by Australian fashion brand Dissh.) It’s the kind of trend that makes perfect sense for sunshine dressing: the sheer look isn’t always something that would suit the streets of Dublin city. We’ve spotted dupes at Marks & Spencer, or if you’d prefer a more sedate approach, Second Female’s broderie anglaise trousers also work a treat.
Personality Hats
If there was ever a time to trial a personality hat, high summer is it. Raffia pillbox hats, such as the one pictured here, are currently on our wish-list. Get one at Parfois, Arket or from New York milliner Gigi Burris. Swap one out for an actual sunhat when you’re by the pool.
Silk Headscarves
Speaking of headwear, we’re seeing cotton and silk headscarves taking off (another symptom of the Carolyn Bessette effect?). Our advice: stick to a perennial print such as paisley or polka dots.
Striped Dresses
Striped tops are always in style, but a striped dress – seen on Instagram worn with bucket hats and classic Ray Bans – is a novel addition to a holiday capsule wardrobe that feels right for now.
Athletic Shorts
Is 2026 the summer of the athletic short? Quite possibly. We may be on the fence about this one (likely because we will never look like Carrie Bradshaw or Zoë Kravitz when we recreate it), but teaming sporty cut-offs with a pair of ballet flats might just be the polished entry point into the trend we need.
