5 Of Our Favourite Chanel Beauty Looks At The Met Gala

The make-up artists behind the stars share their inspiration …

MARGOT ROBBIE

World-renowned make-up artist Pati Dubroff said of the Chanel ambassador; “This make-up look was rooted in the early 2000s, with the Estelle Warren Chanel N°5 campaign as my starting point. That era was all about warmth on the skin – a glowing bronze with pops of gold and champagne catching the light in just the right places. There was always this sense of effortless polish, nothing felt overworked. I added a pop of glimmer to really bring the eyes into focus, while keeping everything else soft and natural. I applied Chanel Ombre Première Laque Longwear Liquid Eyeshadow in Rayon onto the centre of the lid, a touch in the inner corner and then gently diffused it, so it melted into the rest of the eye.” @patidubroff

LILY-ROSE DEPP

One of our favourite make-up artists, Nina Park said of Lily-Rose; “I wanted her make-up look to feel soft and almost ethereal something that sat naturally with the gray tones and delicate floral beaded details of her dress. I kept her look very tonal and diffused no defined liner, just a gentle smoke along the lash line – so it felt seamless. The lashes were fluttery and light, adding dimension without ever feeling heavy. The overall colour palette stayed muted with just enough pink to bring warmth into the face, so everything felt romantic, and effortless.”

“I applied Chanel Sublimage L’Extrait Huile Lèvres as more of a treatment than a finish at the beginning of the make-up application process and let it absorb while I worked on the rest of the face. Then, I removed a bit of the excess product before applying any lip colour. This softened the lips, so the colour sat better and felt more diffused.”

MUA Dee Carrion commented on Ayo Edebiri; “I was inspired by Ayo’s ethereal and angelic dress. I wanted to keep her make-up within that same world, so I created a look of glowing skin, which was complimented by reflective shimmers and a soft, flushed lip.”

“To create Ayo’s sparkly eye look, first I applied Le Crayon Yeux Precision Eye Definer in Brun Teak to define the eyes. Then, I applied Les 9 Ombres High Intensity Eyeshadow Palette in The Daring Muse and The Space Traveler to add depth, shape and sparkle.” @deemakeupart

SARAH PIDGEON

MUA Emily Cheng said of the Love Story alum’s look; “I was inspired to create a look of soft-edged radiance. I added washes of monochromatic tones that melted into the skin to create a polished aesthetic. I wanted the subdued washes of colour and luminous skin to be a soft anchor to the vibrancy of the jewel-toned look.”

“I focused heavily on building hydration into Sarah’s skin by tailoring a routine specific to her. I also kept her complexion as the focal point of the look by enhancing her natural contours and tones. To achieve this, I first applied a generous mist of Chanel Sublimage Le Baume onto the skin and massaged it  into areas of the face that required more hydration, like around the nose and chin.. Next, I massaged in Chanel Sublimage La Crème Texture Fine Ultimate Cream to build a supple, hydrated base while wakening the skin. I worked this product into each section of the face to ensure maximum absorption.”

GRACIE ABRAMS

Emily Cheng also worked with Gracie, saying; “I wanted to create a look that was inspired by porcelain and a petal complexion. I focused on creating a high-contrast flush that looked like it was blooming from within the skin. The look featured a translucent, alabaster base with a concentrated, high-positioned flush. The cheeks weren’t just pink; they had a stained quality.”

“To create a porcelain, flushed complexion, I applied Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Blush in Nectar onto the apples of the cheeks and diffused downwards to mimic a natural flush. Then, I layered Chanel Joues Contraste Intense Cream-to-Powder Blush in Grenat Profond onto the apples of the cheeks for added dimension.”
