From a new wine bar to South American tapas plus an offshoot of the much loved Big Fan, here are just some of the new places to dine that opened their doors recently …
Sister7 at Fidelity Studio, Dublin 7
What does the combination of Big Romance + Whiplash + Big Fan equal? Yes, it’s Sister7. When people speak about the buzz around a new opening, this is exactly what they mean. Sister7 at Fidelity Studio is the collab of dreams with the team behind the much loved Big Fan at the food helm making the cheeseburger jiaozi groupies among us as happy as a clam. Located beside Fidelity Bar in Smithfield, the menu is apparently split between Big Fan classics with a smattering of newer dishes and is perfect for visiting with a couple of friends and tasting everything. Obviously. Signs of the Whiplash involvement are all over the menu with the brewery spent grain crackers being much talked about. Oh, and the interior is seductive enough to make you hate your house. www.instagram.com/sisterseven_bigfan/
September, Blackrock
The team behind the delicious sandwiches at Leroys Dublin recently opened September, café by day, wine bar by night. The décor is simple with a hint of Parisian je ne sais quoi– think bentwood chairs, heaving shelves of wine and rustic wooden tables, plus, the wine bar menu (on Friday and Saturday evenings), is concise and perfectly formed. Anywhere that finishes an evening with homemade tiramisu and Comté with roasted grapes and crackers is a win in my book. www.instagram.com/september.dublin.
Tacos Lupillo at Seasons on the Weir, Lucan
Ok, so it’s not exactly a new opening as Tacos Lupillo have been drawing crowds to Inchicore for a few months now, but Tuesday night tacos at Seasons on the Weir in Lucan IS new, and for people in the vicinity (or anyone who fancies making the journey), it’s something to celebrate. Primarily a tapas restaurant, Seasons opened in late 2022 but the Tuesday night pop up with Tacos Lupillo is a new incarnation, and I have a feeling it will be a successful one. Open Sundays from 4pm until 9pm, enjoy some tacos and wash them down with an ice cold cerveza. Plus, there are nachos, stuffed potatoes and…did someone say margaritas? www.instagram.com/tacoslupillodublin.
Table 45, Dublin 2
Dog friendly, craft beers, a Vermuteria corner, and South American tapas, Table 45 has it all. Part café, part bar and part restaurant, Table 45 is the community resource that everyone should have, but for now, you will find it at Hogan Place. Plus, if you fancy escaping your house while working from home, co-working is available from 10am Wednesday to Saturday (with the kitchen opening at 4pm) with coffee and Wifi. There are weekly events including live music on weekend afternoons with croquetas, ceviche and empanadas on the menu, what more could you ask for? www.table45.ie.
Sultan’s, Dublin 1
Anyone who has ever tasted Lahmacun will want to pay a visit to Sultan’s Grill and Pidehouse in the north of the city. Wafer thin flatbread spread with a thin layer of spiced minced meat and topped with salad is a taste sensation – and don’t get me started on pide. Everything is made in-house and the Turkish breakfast for two is a feast with Turkish bagel and Borek, a choice of either fried eggs or Menemen, French fries, tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, green and black olives, Feta cheese, Tulum cheese, Acuka (a hot, spicy dip), plus conserves such as honey, jam, tahini, molasses, clotted cream, and Nutella. Go hungry. www.instagram.com/sultansdublin.
