5 Indulgent Dishes To Fall In Love With This February

This month, Ciara McQuillan will be celebrating her love for food in all its delectable glory …

“Love is in the air, everywhere I look around. Love is in the air, every sight and every sound”….yep, it’s February and we all know what that means. Romantic tables for two, date nights galore, “Palentines”, “Galentines” and of course a slew of anti-Valentine’s Day campaigns (which is entirely understandable). Me? I will be celebrating my love for food in all its delectable glory. From tacos to tiny sandwiches and everything in between, I will happily celebrate any occasion that affords me an opportunity to reignite my passion for my one true love – food.

Cheeseburger Spring Roll with Sichuan Ketchup at Hang Dai

The cheeseburger spring roll at Hang Dai has become something of a legendary dish in Dublin but it really is just the tip of the gastronomic iceberg at this Chinese restaurant. Other dishes worth visiting for include the wood fired Skeaghanore Duck and the Iberico char siu. The €40 tasting menu is good value and the mood is edgy and fun filled. Don’t miss the cocktails which don’t disappoint either. www.hangdaichinese.com

Suckling Pig Shoulder al Forno at Osteria Lucio

A classic Roman dish, the oven roasted suckling pig at Osterio Lucio is served with onions, olives, roasted potato, winter leaf salad, apple and horseradish sauce and feeds two generously. Ross Lewis’s Italian joint started out life as Pizza e Porchetta so it’s nice to see this dish on the menu. That said, the pasta dishes are also excellent and the restaurant itself is cosy and atmospheric. www.osterialucio.com

Birra Tacos at Just Chubbys

From the talented people behind 147 Deli, Just Chubbys was a long time coming but it seems like all the issues have been ironed out and it is happily here to stay. From 6pm every Wednesday – Friday in a car park just off Clontarf Road, Just Chubbys serve up beef and Guinness birra tacos with all the sides and yes, they are worth travelling for. The chicken and veggie options are also excellent – so do the right thing and get a serving of each. www.instagram.com/justchubbys

Anything from Mister S

A vague statement, I concur, but I’m not sure I can pick ONE specific dish from the dream restaurant that is Mister S. Cooking over fire is obviously not a new concept but for numerous reasons, I love the food cooked over fire at Mister S. Waygu steak frites for Friday lunch might sound indulgent but when it costs €19 it seems like a no brainer. The short rib, the cote de boeuf, the pork chop with sticky glaze and the fish cooked over fire all make me a happier version of my former self. And then of course there are the Burnt End Rendang spring rolls and the fried potatoes with onion salt and aioli… Ok, I’m stopping now. www.misters.ie

Tiny Things at Luttrellstown Castle Afternoon Tea

Steeped in romance, a visit to Luttrellstown Castle is always an outing to remember and the perfect way to treat yourself and your food loving friend to a dreamy feast of the dainty variety. To celebrate the birthplace of Saint Valentine, a “Rome, Romantic Cities of the World” themed Afternoon Tea will be served in the Van Stry Ballroom this weekend with more goodies than you could possibly manage. Possibly. Sweet treats include warm almond cake, homemade scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream, tiramisu with amaretto biscuit and ricotta strawberry cheesecake. There are Champagne and cocktail options available too and Springtime/Mother’s Day afternoon tea bookings are set to launch in the coming weeks. www.luttrellstowncastle.com
