What do the stylish take on holidays? Glean some inspiration from these fashion insiders …
Kim Turkington
For style influencer Kim Turkington, who is just back from a beach holiday to Mallorca in Spain, holiday dressing is all about cooling materials that work overtime. “The hero piece I wore on holidays was a white linen mini dress. It’s easy to throw on and works for just about everything, day or night. I’ve had this one from Faithfull for a few years now, and it comes with me on every trip – it’s a classic,” she says. Turkington’s love of linen doesn’t stop there, however. “An oversized linen shirt is the hardest-working piece in my holiday suitcase. It’s endlessly versatile. I’ll throw it over a bikini for the beach, pair it with shorts or wrap a sarong on top for lunch, or style it with linen trousers for an easy evening look. It works as a cover-up, a layering piece, or even a makeshift beach towel in a pinch,” she says.

Michaela O’Shaughnessy
For New York-based Michaela O’Shaughnessy, a fashion insider at Instagram, a recent trip to the seaside town of Montauk – peak coastal dressing vibes – proved a love-letter to practical holiday buys. “Everyone loves a pair of Birkenstocks during the summer, but the shearling pair are the absolute best for travelling because they double up as a sandal for exploring or sipping cocktails by the pool and as a slipper at the end of the day when you’re back in your hotel. I promise even in extreme heat they are still so comfortable,” O’Shaughnessy says, who admits she has “an unhealthy obsession” with Bagu packing cubes. “I always bring one of their shopping bags in my handbag when I’m travelling in case I want to buy anything along the way. They fold up nicely to fit in your bag!” she says.

Sophie van der Flier
Sophie van der Flier, a Dublin-based style influencer is always looking for a new pair of sunglasses to add to her artillery. But they must be the right ones. “I recently spotted a YSL pair that’s top of my summer wish list. They are effortlessly chic and, crucially, they won’t snag in your hair when you push them up,” she explains. Although, a white cotton dress is a hero item for its versatility. “I love how effortlessly it transitions from day to night. It’s perfect with sandals and a sun hat for breakfast, then dressed up with heels, jewellery and a clutch for dinner,” she says.

Edel Kinane
For style consultant Edel Kinane it’s about headwear, first and foremost. “A great sun hat is essential for me, obviously to protect my skin and hair from sun damage but, primarily, because the right one outdoes any other summer accessory. My go-to is the Western Wide Palma, which I unfortunately left behind in my hotel in Puglia last week, so I’m desperately trying to retrieve it! My other favourite is the Jude Bleach hat by Janessa Leoné from Electra in Dublin, which is super light and comfortable to wear,” Kinane says. As for other essentials, it’s all about suncare. “The scent of Nuxe just transports me into holiday mode like no other. I particularly love the Nuxe Sun Oil Gold, and the dry oil roll-on, for some shimmer. Meaghers Pharmacy has the best range,” she says.
