Penny McCormick recommends where to shop for additional ideas:
My first port of call for any sort of gift is a museum gift shop. In the capital, the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) has great books and exclusive collaborations with Irish artists, while the National Gallery of Ireland has an excellent range of quirky fashion accessories. Dublin’s Hugh Lane Gallery and Ulster Museum in Belfast are both particularly good for cards and books.
If looking for an original piece of art, I always check out winter group exhibitions in local galleries, where you can view a range of styles and price points. In Dublin, Solomon Fine Art is showing works by Leah Beggs, Margo Banks and Tom Clement, among others. “Contrasts” is the title of a winter group exhibition at Olivier Cornet Gallery, which opens on December 18. It includes work by Annika Berglund, Hugh Cummins, Mary A Fitzgerald, David Fox, Nickie Hayden and Maria Atanackovi, among others. And I also recommend the Doorway Gallery’s Stocking Filler Exhibition where miniature works by local artists are priced under €500 and under €1,000. @pennymccormicked
