Comfort is king when it comes to denim this season. Designed to be slouchy without too much stacking at the hem (the most elusive of all leg lengths), these five-pocket jeans from H&M feel plush thanks to a super soft cotton-lyocell blend. Dark feather soft wide high waist jeans, €39.99, at H&M.

A denim skirt with a slit hem is a good weather essential. We say? Ankle lengths are dramatic but a calf length won’t drown your figure. Black denim midi-skirt, €29.99, at Mango.

Zara’s Marine high waisted straight leg jeans had a moment last year when they were endorsed by style influencer Monikh Dale (the queen of undone cool who knows a good pair of jeans), and they’re back for summer in an of-the-moment shade of khaki. Green Marine high waisted straight leg jeans, €39.95, at Zara.

Opting for a denim dress? A-line, shift styles are in vogue now. Blue panelled denim shift dress, €90, at COS.

How to wear denim shorts for SS24? Look for wide styles that hint at tomboy cool, they’re far more effortless than those short-and-tight varieties. Black Wilson wide leg shorts, Skall Studio, €230, at Arnotts.

On paper, a denim blazer should be more naff than nostalgic, but in reality this Sézane iteration has elegant appeal. Cyan Christie double-breasted jacket, €175; www.sezane.com.

Another nostalgic reissue, the coolest cover-up for summer is a white denim jacket, as recommended by brands such as Marant Étoile, Frame and Jacquemus who make it feel modern and fresh. The new way to wear it? An unexpected shot of red grounds the look firmly in the now. White De-Nîmes recycled denim jacket, Jacquemus, €650; www.net-a-porter.com.

The au courant way to wear pale denim is from top to toe. Look to shades of brilliant white, cream and ecru, and pair with a white shirt or T-shirt for a total white out. Ecru linen blend high waisted wide leg jeans, M&S Collection, €65, at Marks & Spencer.

A considerably elevated take on the denim jacket, Anine Bing’s collarless gold embellished denim jacket has a rock and roll polish. (The fact that Kate Moss wears one in the brand’s spring campaign doesn’t hurt either.) Atlantic blue Janet jacket, €450; www.aninebing.com.

Denim pop-over style shirts have been cropping up this season at brands such as COS and Soeur, however we love the box-fresh lace detail on this one that suggests a seafaring vibe. Dark blue Madia shirt, €219; www.baumundpferdgarten.com

Striped patterns aren’t just for tops: the array of striped jeans abounding this season feels novel and are a luxe, off-duty wardrobe addition. Blue Shore low relaxed jeans, €89; www.arket.com.

French women favour Souer’s faded denim shorts which have a decided vintage feel. Pair with a frilly, printed blouse for a subtle nod to bohemia. Light blue Aki cropped denim shorts, €125; www.soeur.com.
