Women in Wealth: Meet Sandra Manning

Sandra Manning has recently taken over from Jennifer Graham as THE GLOSS | Goodbody Investment Club financial advisor. Sandra is also an executive on the Wealth Management team at Goodbody, so we sat down to learn more about her and her role …

Our Investment Club journey began in October 2021 – and the experts from Goodbody have been with us every step of the way, sharing practical tips on investing and insights on pensions and inheritance tax, among other topics. We thought it was time to get to know our experts a little better – from their career journey and how we can attract more women to the financial services industry to their favourite podcasts and TV series. We invite you to explore our Women in Wealth series.

My journey to a career in financial services…

I started my career in compliance before moving to the Private Clients division and later to the Wealth Management area which is where I knew my real interest and passion was. Working in different areas early in my career gave me a great appreciation and understanding of the business and those areas that are there to protect our clients.

What females bring to the industry…

I’m very lucky to have worked with females in leadership roles early in my career. They really supported and always encouraged me to further my professional qualifications. I believe women are naturally encouraging and nurturing.

Career highlight to date…

Definitely my current role where I get to meet people and try to understand their individual needs and objectives. My role is extremely varied as we look at all aspects of our client’s financial wellbeing, from investments and inheritance planning to retirement planning. Each client we speak with is different and has a unique set of goals. We are there to help and guide them through their investment journey and to achieve their financial objectives which is highly rewarding.

Three investing tips for beginners:

Keep it simple, diversify your investments and don’t panic! Once you have a suitable spread of investments and the appropriate time horizon, it’s important to stay invested. There will be bumps along the way when invested in markets as we have seen in recent years. Remember this and don’t sell in a panic.

Currently reading/on my list…

Since returning from maternity leave, I don’t have enough hours in the day to pick up a book unfortunately, but I do have a long list!

What I’m watching…

I recently watched 1923 on Paramount Plus with Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford and I’ve just started watching the prequel 1883, starring Sam Elliott. Something a bit different but really enjoyable!

A podcast I love…

I don’t often get much time to listen to podcasts, but I recently listened to Sile Seoige’s Ready to be Real podcast with health and performance coach Gerry Hussey. Very thought provoking and motivational!

On attracting women to the financial services industry…

It’s hard to know exactly what attracts women to the industry and how to attract more going forward. I think the bigger challenge that companies face is retaining women as family life can change throughout their career.
