IN PARTNERSHIP WITH AVEENO
A look at a scalp expert’s beauty shelf …
Beauty staples I’m never without …
My Raven Haircare natural bristle brush [€28] is a non-negotiable. Natural bristles are gentler on the hair and help distribute oils evenly, so even second-day hair looks fresh, smooth and polished.
AVEENO® Skin Relief Repairing Ointment [€12.99] is another constant. As a hairstylist and trichologist, my hands can get quite chapped, and this soothes instantly. I’ve also discovered that it’s brilliant on my cheeks and lips after a run. I love that it’s formulated for sensitive skin – simple, effective and kind.
I never leave home without my MAC lipstick and pencil [€24] in Sweet Talk tucked into my bag. Finding the perfect nude when you’re pale is not easy – I’ve tried countless shades and brands but always come back to this one.
And, perhaps unexpectedly, Velcro rollers [from €6 at www.millies.ie]. I carry two with me at all times – they’re my secret weapon for emergency volume in the car.
Best beauty investments — what I spend a bit more on that’s worth it …
My Dyson hairdryer [from €350]. The new range may be a splurge, but it’s worth every cent. The negative ion technology reduces damage and protects fragile strands. Good hair never goes out of style – it has the power to change your mood and your day.
Most recent purchase
A rose quartz facial roller [€39] from Holidermie, who do a beautiful edit of holistic tools for face and body. This roller is incredible for de-puffing in the mornings – I keep mine in the fridge for that extra cooling lift.
Favourite places to shop for beauty
Le Bon Marché in Paris is pure heaven and a total experience, the kind of place you lose time in. I can spend hours browsing French pharmacies too; they’re treasure troves for beauty lovers. Liberty London – the vibe, the smell, the perfumery, the atmosphere and the sensory overload of it all. I love how they showcase high-end beauty alongside everyday essentials.
All-time favourite beauty items
Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara [€30.60] is my desert-island essential. With blonde lashes, I feel completely bare without it. It’s a make-up artist classic, and the wand is unbeatable. Aveeno Apple Cider Vinegar for Sensitive Scalp Shampoo is another staple. I have really sensitive skin so I use this while gently scalp-brushing. Aveeno products have no sulphates and are infused with essential oils and botanicals. Oats break down into a creamy texture that gently exfoliates your scalp while cleansing. AVEENO® Scalp Soothing Haircare is available in supermarkets and pharmacies nationwide, RRP €9 each; www.aveeno.ie
I’m coveting …
The CurrentBody Scalp LED Shield [€740] for hair growth, and the Shark Facial Pro Glow & Depuffi At-Home Facial device [€345.45]. Both feel like the next step in intelligent beauty tech.
Favourite Irish beauty product …
AyuGlo Self-Tanning Liquid [€22.95]. I rarely wear tan, but a friend introduced me to Ayu’s range, and it’s so natural. I love that it’s an Irish brand as I always try and support Irish businesses.
Favourite treatment or therapist
Jade at the Fitzwilliam Health Clinic, Dublin 2: her facials are exceptional, and her knowledge for skin is unmatched. And scalp massages … they’re my ultimate indulgence. If people understood the true power of scalp massage – for hair growth, scalp health, stress relief and that subtle lift to the face afterwards – it would top every beauty list.
The loveliest perfume bottle on my dressing table
I’m very minimal with fragrance, but Bastille’s sandalwood-based Paradis Nuit eau de parfum [from €39 at www.luia.eu] is my signature. I adore woody, earthy notes and this one feels soft and natural. Never overpowering, just well-balanced.
One foundation I swear by …
I’ve tried nearly every foundation on the market: my Irish, red-toned skin makes it a mission. My all-time favourite is Sisley Phyto Hydra Teint [€110.40]. It’s creamy, hydrating and blends like silk. It can be tricky to find my exact shade, so NARS is my dependable back-up.
My beauty ethos …
I’ve always believed that beauty lives in your smile and energy: everything else is just detail. It’s about showing up as the best version of yourself, and letting confidence do the rest. On your less confident days, there’s always hair and make-up.
