What’s On My Beauty Shelf: Make-Up Artist Stephanie Burgess Shares Her Essentials

professional freelance make-up artist, Stephanie Burgess shares her essential beauty items and treatments …

Key beauty staples/old favourites I’m never without …

“For skincare, it has to be cleanser and SPF. And for make-up, it will always be concealer, brows, cheeks and lips. If these were the only items in my make-up bag, I know I would feel fresh-faced and confident.”

Best beauty investments – what I spend a bit more on (face cream/perfume etc) that’s worth it …

“This would have to be skin treatments for me, whether that’s a facial peel or microneedling. For me, having a professional look at your skin and choose the best booster is so worth the investment. It always has the ability to refocus my home routine, too. I had a Biologique Recherche facial recently and have started using the P50 lotion now too. I went to Natalie Larkin of Skin Passion in Greystones (www.greystonesclinic.eu) and it was amazing. Previously I have been to Sharon Brady (@sharonbradyrenaissance) numerous times for microneedling and peels.”

Most recent purchase …

“Sculpted by Aimee Connolly’s HydraTint. It is the most lightweight base, yet you can see the benefits of wearing it. It’s like a miracle blur on your skin, with SPF and skincare included too.”

Favourite places to shop for beauty …

“On Instagram and online. I have a folder on Instagram where I save everything that interests me or is recommended by fellow make-up artists and hairstylists. And a photo folder on my phone of screenshots too. Then when I’m out shopping, in Brown Thomas, Boots or SpaceNK etc, I rationalise my choice to shop/spend as I’ve ‘researched’ in advance. I do also love online beauty shopping but I prefer seeing and feeling a product first.”

Favourite Irish beauty item …

Rebeluna make-up brushes. I love these for both myself and and my professional kit. The quality and blendability of them is amazing and the value is an added bonus.”

I’m coveting …

“Profhilo face treatment. I’ve seen the results on others and it looks amazing. Also, having started using Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 recently, it looks to be the answer to skin concerns like pigmentation, blemishes and ageing.”

The loveliest perfume bottle on my dressing table …

“Ever since I watched a 100ml bottle of my adored Chanel Coco Mademoiselle fragrance slide off a shelf in my room years ago, smashing across the floor, I cannot bring myself to spend the money I used to on fragrance. Having said that, I do love fragrance. Valley of Roses in Kilkenny is amazing. It’s an independent perfumery and I love that they offer refills of their scents too.”

One foundation I swear by ….

“Controversially, I’m not a big fan of foundation. I do have an array in my kit, but I feel concealer, applied correctly and to the right places, can have so much more impact to an overall look. My current favourite concealer is Dior Forever Skin Correct. My current most-used foundations for brides are Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless, for coverage and longevity, alongside Sculpted by Aimee Connolly Tint & Glow for a buffed-out and glowy finish.”

My beauty ethos …

“To look and feel your best, keeping it simple is usually the key.”
