Clémence Michallon is an author and journalist. Born and raised near Paris, Clémence moved to New York City in 2014 and is a dual citizen of France and the US. She graduated from Sciences Po in Paris, and studied journalism at City University of London and Columbia University. Her debut thriller, The Quiet Tenant, was published in 2023 and is an international bestseller. She was a staff writer at The Independent, and is now a freelance journalist. Her work has appeared in The New York Times Book Review, Time Magazine, Cosmopolitan UK, among other publications. I love having a new Megan Abbott book to look forward to, so I’ve been saving it. It will be my reward when I finish the first draft of my next novel.

“I’m reading My Friends by Fredrik Backman. I’m only a hundred pages in and it’s already made me tear up a couple of times. It’s an emotional read about friendship and art. While on tour for Our Last Resort, I read and was dazzled by Audition by Katie Kitamura, which was just longlisted for the Booker Prize. I’ve had her previous novel, Intimacies, on my shelf for a few weeks, so I will pick it up very soon.

“Also on tour, I listened to Serial Killer Support Group by Saratoga Schaefer, an addictive crime novel about a woman who infiltrates a secret support group for serial murderers, hoping to track down her sister’s killer. I recently devoured Heartwood by Amity Gaige, a survival thriller about a woman lost on the Appalachian trail. It’s one of those books where everything – the plot, the characters, the prose – is done excellently. Earlier this year, I loved The Bombshell by Darrow Farr, a debut about a teenage girl who is abducted by Corsican militants one summer in the 1990s. It’s a perfect novel. I never wanted it to end.

“Megan Abbott has a new book out called El Dorado Drive. I love having a new Megan Abbott book to look forward to, so I’ve been saving it. It will be my reward when I finish the first draft of my next novel. Also on the reward shelf is Dances by Nicole Cuffy. I love novels about ballet.”
