We Wish We Owned Every One Of These November ‘It’ Dresses

Shop the dresses of the moment below …

It seems like the perfect time of year to hunt down a dress that will dazzle. We don’t just mean sequin-heavy party wear (although that certainly helps our seasonal affective disorder), rather a dress that, even if you wear it by day, has got that wow factor. The dresses out there right now are a mixed bag. Even though it’s arguably the piece that garners the most excitement – who can deny the fizz of a traffic-stopping dress in your basket – the right dress is hard to come by.

The high street has leaned so much into separates post-lockdown that some stores have never really recovered their buy of good dresses; fabrications are lacking (read: polyester) and styles are either bland or extremely young. Interestingly, there’s a bit of a 1950s throwback happening right now with prom styles and taffeta fabrics coming through (see Arket). Equally, after years of harping on about underwear as outerwear as a trend, fashion has finally leaned into the trend with sheer and nightdress-inspired styles popping up in the new-in sections of stores, both high street and high-end.

What to buy? Rixo’s Mia pure silk dress feels opulent and nods to a vintage 1930s dress worn on the red carpet by Kate Moss. Meanwhile, for day, Dôen and Marks & Spencer deliver on midi-dresses with high appeal. Lastly, Cabbages & Roses has created possibly the most festive dress in the Alexa dress in tartan voile – it makes the ubiquitous Christmas print seem appealing rather than cliched.
