Tried & Tested: These 4 Cleansers Are Absolutely Worth Your Cash

Great ways to clean your skin, from under €20 …

Finding a cleanser to suit your skin is a mission. It depends what your skin needs and if you’re targeting oiliness, dryness, breakouts or brightness – or all of the above. Perhaps you’ve found the One, and swear by it – but if you’re open to something new, I’ve been trying out some excellent new ones in the past few weeks, from cream to balm to gel and even powder – here are a few options to consider:

1 Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm is one of the all-time best ways to clean your skin. I love all incarnations of it, the original to the pink rose version (check out the dramatically orange Superfood AHA Glow Cleansing Butter, too; a most Hallowe’en shade of cleanser). The texture is so buttery and delightful to put on your skin – it’s an easy and luxurious way to remove make-up or just treat your face to. Elemis has just arrived at Kildare Village, with the balms and plenty of other star items at 30 per cent off. It’s part of an exciting new collection of beauty arrivals there, including Ayu cosmetics, with a Charlotte Tilbury standalone store set to open at the end of September. www.kildarevillage.com

2 I’ve been trying out Australian skincare by Ultraceuticals for the past few weeks, and have found their Ultra Calming Cleanser (€45) an excellent daily reliable: I like the gel/cream texture, it’s fragrance-free and it lifts make-up gently and easily. At Ultraceuticals clinics nationwide and www.ultraceuticals.com/ie

3 Trilogy Rosehip Cream Cleanser’s red tube looks great in the bathroom and I love the natural oils in it, from rosehip to carrot. I wrote about this back in the spring, and I’m still using it – looks great, works well, smells fantastic and costs less than €20.

4 I’ve used Dr Hauschka for years and years, and it remains hard to beat them for beautiful textures and smells, whatever the constant parade of new launches. This new Cleansing Balm is just exquisite to use – it’s a balm that turns milky when it meets water, and feels expensively silky on the skin. Organic apricot kernel oil is just one of the mild and gentle natural ingredients (the brand has been entirely natural since first created in the 1960s, and certified natural since 2007), and it has that unbeatably clean and beautiful Dr H scent. It’s not often you look forward to cleaning your face, but you do with this. I adore it. €22.95 at www.drh.ie and stockists nationwide.

AND … As an add-on to your cleansing routine, I’ve just started trying Votary’s Daily Apple Toner, a brightening blend of natural acids to smooth and soothe skin. You use it daily after cleansing to get a great glow. €45, www.votary.co.uk and SpaceNK.
