This Week’s Beauty News: Two Black Friday Deals That Caught Our Attention

Convenient, eco-friendly period products delivered to your door, plus beauty bargains coming this way …

1 MAKE LIFE EASIER (and support a great charity too)

Period product subscription service, Riley, launched earlier this year and based in Cork, offers a convenient way to buy pads and tampons that do as little damage to the environment as possible. A set of organic tampons and pads (three-month supply) starts from €21 (the price goes down the more you order; commit to a year and save 20 per cent), with free delivery. Riley pads and tampons are an environmentally conscious alternative to mainstream plastic-filled products; they are compostable and recyclable, with bio-based applicators, and tampons are made from certified organic cotton. Companies such as Vodafone now supply their staff with Riley.

Riley is running a special Black Friday campaign from 17-29 November. When you sign up for an annual subscription, Riley is offering the first three months free (or your first month free if you opt for a quarterly subscription), together with free delivery to your door – this means savings of up to 33 per cent.

The all-female founders of Riley have committed to donating 100 per cent of profits earned during this promotional campaign to fighting period poverty. Fiona Parfrey, Riley co-founder (pictured above with co-founders Lauren Duggan and Aine Kilkenny) says: “We already donate €1 from every box sold to our partner, registered Irish charity Development Pamoja. I’ve witnessed first-hand the incredible work this organisation does in Kenya and we are delighted to be able to support them on an ongoing basis.” Parfrey notes that all profits from this November campaign will be used “to give free sanitary products to young girls so they don’t miss school due to lack of access, and funding doctor school-led visits to educate students about menstrual health.”

Riley’s mission is to reduce the waste caused from menstrual products, and to provide period products “that are better both for your body and for the planet”, and so they hope this promotion will encourage people to make the switch.

We tend to switch off when it comes to all the endless Black Friday deals… But this one caught our attention – it’s hard to resist 20 per cent off everything at (including limited-edition specials). And that’s what will be available online from Thursday November 25 at 12noon until Tuesday November 30.

If you can’t wait until then, there are some eye-catching limited-edition holiday kits available now, including the Makeup Set and Beauty Bag (€61), and a Lip Trio in Cranberry set (€48); the distinctive pink and red bag is available separately too (€30). And we can’t resist adding the Balm Dotcom in Cookie Butter (€12) to every order. I bought the pink Glossier sweatshirt a few years ago and wear it alot – it’s back in stock, too. See you there on 25th …
