Behind the brand …
As small joys go, a buttery body cream is up there. As we shield our skin in layers of warm clothes, it’s easy to forget about protecting the skin itself, moisturising and keeping it conditioned. Some body creams are good enough to make this a lovely ritual and moment of caring for yourself, rather than a dull chore. Modern, minimalist brands such as Naturium (try its Glow Getter coconut-scented body care range, from €8) are encouraging us to pay as much attention to our bodies as to our faces.
Recently I’ve been using a range that’s new to me and finding it really impressive: Saltair. The US-based brand, founded by model and body positive advocate Iskra Lawrence, first launched in 2022, but just landed in Ireland and the UK.
Saltair’s Santal Bloom collection (exclusive to SpaceNK) excels in terms of its efficacious formulas, luxurious textures and scent. It looks and feels more expensive than it is. I’m not saying it’s bargain basement, but it compares favourably to its peers: for example, the generous pot of Saltair Multi-Lipid Body Butter (over 280g), is €26.45; you’ll pay €76 for a Laura Mercier body cream (200ml).
The Saltair Nourishing Body Oil is under €30 (118ml) and it really performs, sinking straight into the skin without any greasy residue, and leaving a light and lovely scent and a glowy finish. It’s a glorious solution for dry winter skin. There’s a silky deodorant in the line, too, with a blend of natural acids and niacinamide to soothe and brighten the skin under the arm, making deodorising a far more elegant scenario than blasting on some noxious fumes.
I love the packaging of this range – it’s simple, elegant, user-friendly and made from PCR – and the soft and sunny scent is comforting, but not too sweet (it’s a creamy blend of soft rose, magnolia and jasmine). Other collections are more colourful, with fun and fruity fragrance mists (think coconut, green grapefruit and beachy marine scents), juicy lip balms and shimmery body oils; there’s haircare in the US, too.
The only downside? Everyone seems to be cottoning on to the good quality and value of this brand, and lots of lines are currently sold out online; hopefully there will be a restock before Christmas. This standout Santal Bloom collection is still available though, so be quick …
