This is What Summer Looks Like at Chanel Beauty

New launches and bright shades: here’s what to make a beeline for on May 6 …

We headed to London this week for a preview of summer, Chanel-style. It was an early ray of summer on a rainy day in the capital, with a set-up that featured a Chanel surfboard casually propped in the corner.

But this couldn’t distract us from the main event – the Summer in Grand Style collection, launching May 6. And grand style it is: It’s Les Beiges, big-style. So the Healthy Glow Sunkissed Powder, a glow-giving bronzer in three shades (light, medium, deep), now comes in a whopper new compact (€75). And there’s a suitably giant Kabuki brush (€50) to dust it on with (don’t forget the décolletage; you can even dust arms, legs and shoulders, should you be baring them). If your summer doesn’t deliver (I’m thinking of a particular trip that featured only torrential Irish rain), this is how to still look like you spent a week on the Riviera.

Another way of nailing a healthy glowing complexion is the bestselling Bronzing Cream, a light formula for a natural-looking warmth – and this summer it’s at last available in medium (€46) to join the light and dark shades we’re already addicted to. Meanwhile, the grandest of body oils: this big glass bottle of holiday-scented Illuminating Oil (€80) doubles as a fragrance, softly warm and summery, and you can use it on face, body and the ends of your hair.

This is grand, dressing-table beauty to display and enjoy. Les Beiges has always been a collection for those who want a subtle, natural-looking tan without risking anything remotely orange or artificial. The Healthy Glow powder has long had a place in my make-up bag as it warms up your skin in the most natural-looking way; I find the texture and shade means that it’s pretty well impossible to overdo it, always a fear with bronzer (and I love the Beiges foundation too, and Highlighting Fluid). The whole range always has a sporty, active approach to summer, and this year it’s going seriously glam.

WHAT LIES AHEAD

Also on the way is a twist on the glorious Water-Fresh Tint that flew off shelves when first launched in 2019; it borrows technology from Chanel skincare, so that it can combine both water and oil to create the lightest texture. Chanel have now taken the Water-Fresh Tint forward with added pigment, and more shades (16), giving this fresh, uniquely light skin tint a bit more oomph while retaining the skin-brightening qualities.

Also this summer we get a blush version, for a “delicate rosy glow”, €52, in six shades, from light pink through apricot and coral to deep bronze. It’s a really light and moisturising way to wear blush, a unique fluid that bursts into soft colour on the skin. It’s all about skin enhancement, like the sheerest of silk stockings. Both the blush (Water-Fresh Complexion Touch de Teint, to give it its full title) and the Tint launch on June 17.
