Dawn Mayne launched her online beauty boutique in 2019, to reflect her passion for healthy living. Luia (originally The Clean Beauty Edit) features the brands that Mayne, a certified health coach with knowledge of herbalism, wanted to use herself. From the highest-quality organic skincare to the latest technology in wellness, everything is carefully chosen to spark joy.
“Everything on Luia has a bit of a cult following,” she explains. “I’m passionate about natural living – keeping as close as I can to nature in a fast-paced world, finding natural ingredients and materials and bringing them into my home. I find this grounding and reassuring, and want to bring that joy to others. I’m interested in longevity, and interest in our health is only going to increase as we look to counteract all the negativity that’s bombarding us.”
Mayne’s interest has always been in natural ingredients – her first business venture was importing rose petals. “If you’re feeling out of balance, paring back and getting as close to nature as you can genuinely helps. Rather than being trend-driven, we believe in being aware of everything you’re putting on your skin, and keeping to natural and unprocessed ingredients as much as possible.”
What does “clean” skincare mean for Mayne? “For me, clean skincare means natural ingredients that are high quality and not known to cause any harm. And there’s now an abundance of clean brands using natural ingredients, such as cold-pressed, unprocessed oils, and less synthetics. When it comes to healthy skin, the biggest thing is sleep, along with good nutrition and hydration.”
Mayne has a knack for finding brilliant new brands before they hit the mainstream, from skincare to lifestyle products. “We’re bringing on two to three new brands a month at the moment,” she notes. “I’m an avid researcher, and I’ll get a feeling if something resonates with me. With Luia, I’m reflecting my own lifestyle, and I find it really rewarding to bring that to other people. The goal is to curate unique, beautifully made things that will bring joy and balance to people.” Look out for everything from healthcare to homewares, such as linen sheets and ceramics, coming soon.
