The trick to creating a warm, cosy, “hyggelig” space (based on the Danish concept of cosiness, Hygge) is to introduce soft fabrics, piles of cushions, natural materials and finishes and unlimited candles and blankets! Natural wood panelling will add to the feeling of Hygge to any room.

I’m so happy how this room turned out. This chair has become my favourite spot, apart from when Louis (my dog) decides he wants to sit on my knee and we both melt with the heat of the fire. It was love at first sight when I saw this wingback chair in a charity shop, I just had to have it. I really enjoy the smell of an open turf fire. Is there anything better than a basket full of natural pine cones (and some unnatural fairy lights) on an autumn night?
