You may have noticed a proliferation of shearling coats on the high street at high-end price-points, some upwards of €1,000. These decadent styles are a luxe alternative to synthetic faux fur, some are reversible and they all boast a super-soft texture.

A different aesthetic to the pilot or aviator-style coats which always abound for autumn/winter, these styles are longer, tactile and look more akin to faux fur. Although, arguably, a real shearling coat is a more conscious choice than a faux fur option as it avoids synthetic fabrics. (According to experts, the polyesters and acrylics which make up the majority of faux fur styles can take up to 1,000 years to decompose.)
