These Are Our Favourite Mascaras Right Now – And One Is Under €5

Back to the office? These tried-and-tested mascaras make you look more pulled-together and awake, instantly, from under €5 …

The latest MAC mascara is making waves on social media. But we don’t give up our trusted go-to mascaras easily. Here’s a bunch of other mascaras that deserve to go viral, in our opinion …

1 I’m a fan of fine combing mascaras – the ones that just glide through your lashes without any danger of clumping or clogging. Think Glossier’s Lash Slick (€16) and MAC’s Extended Play (€21, curently €18.90 at Boots.ie). These are the ones you want when you’re in a hurry – just slick on and go, without having to worry about any black smudges above or below the eye. Glossier’s is neat and efficient – a good one to take with you when you’re travelling.

2 I put Hourglass Unlocked Instant Extension into the fine-comb category too. Defining and lash-lengthening, this vegan formula might be more than you usually spend on a mascara, but it’s worth it. €32 at Arnotts.

3 Currently on my desk – Sisley’s So Stretch mascara in Deep Black (€42 at www.allbeauty.com). The elegant brush makes it easy to uplift and lengthen lashes, and I find it feels lightweight and stays on beautifully and doesn’t smudge, flake or crumble off. Sisley often do coloured mascaras too (this one comes in black, brown and a stunning blue) which is a great easy way to add a hint of colour round the eyes.

4 Maybelline make reliably good affordable mascaras, and the Colossal Curl Bounce is a god option if you need a bit of a lift – it’s designed to act like a lash curler – for less than €14. It’s also likeably un-messy. Currently €11.85 on www.Cloud10beauty.com.

5 Even more of a bargain is Brow + Lash Lamination Clear Mascara from Boots revamped 17 cosmetics line: €3.49 (in store and www.boots.ie). A quick and easy way to define and hold lashes, particularly if you’ve already had a lash tint. There’s a Curl Mascara (€4.99) in the range too.

MASCARA TIPS

Beware of bigger tubes, by the way; this doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re getting more product – just more plastic. YSL’s Lash Clash is a lovely mascara that gives you flamboyant, false-lash looking lashes, but the oversized tube is unecessary and it contains 9ml compared with 10ml for both Hourglass Unlocked and Maybelline’s Curl Bounce. Also, put a sticker on your mascara with the date on, so you know how long you’ve had it – as a rule you should only keep an opened mascara three to six months to avoid any eye infections or irritation.
