We review the 33-bedroom boutique hotel and spa which has just undergone a £10m refurbishment, re-opening last year …
THE VIBE: Buzzy and bohemian. This 33-bedroom boutique hotel, formerly the Templeton, now part of the Galgorm collection, has undergone a £10m refurbishment, re-opening last year. Prioritising pleasure rather than business, it channels the urban bathhouse renaissance with its al fresco wellness areas. A party vibe pervades – from its upbeat restaurant and bar, to The Loft, a pretty wedding venue, and Instagrammable spa.
THE SPA: Given the high standard spa at Galgorm Resort, you’d expect its spa credentials to be top notch and The Relaxation Burrow doesn’t disappoint. The Swedish sauna, steam room and a salt chamber are the perfect prelude to a dip in one of the hot tubs with lakeside views, or a soak in the Roman baths. Then relax in a deckchair on a heated lakeside pebble beach, or in the cabana next to the Lake Bar. After dark there’s a cool Ibizan club vibe, though I loved its early morning serenity too. Treatment rooms offer Germaine de Capuccini massages and Image facials. Try the hot serenity candle massage, £95.
ROOMS: There are four types: Snug, Attic, Comfy and Luxe. In addition to Nespresso machines, Dyson hairdryers, a Marshall amp, Hollywood-style mirrors, spacious bathrooms and great lighting, extras include a cocktail turndown service. I stayed in a Comfy room with its own secluded courtyard, wood-burning stove and al fresco bathtub. Heaven. On my next visit I’ll book one of the dog-friendly rooms. My pooch Jamie would love to meet Florence, the resident cockapoo.
DINING: Hunter’s Bar & Grill seats 180, easily absorbed in various areas – from the wine bar to booths – and its menu has something to suit all tastes. Breakfast is served in the cosy Garden Room.
VERDICT: Snug and quirky with cross-generational appeal. From €265, www.rabbithotel.com.
