An immersive art experience to lose yourself in …
It’s scientifically proven that viewing art boosts mood and wellbeing as it enhances social connections, counteracting loneliness and isolation; reflecting your experience or offering an alternative view of the world. Clinically speaking, it can also help to reduce blood pressure and regulate your heart rate: apparently, figurative art is better for this than contemporary modern art. The overriding benefit of viewing art is that it releases dopamine – the feel-good neurotransmitter that contributes to happiness. In fact, some doctors in the US and Switzerland have prescribed patients free museum and exhibition tours in addition to recommending creative courses to help alleviate symptoms of anxiety, stress and depression.
One art experience that delivers on drama, dopamine and depth is Dream Point’s new Van Gogh-themed Fridays, running weekly until March 20 in Dublin’s Docklands. This arose from the interest and feedback from the previously sold-out RDS Van Gogh show. It’s happily back in a new venue and format.
From 10am to 5pm every Friday, Van Gogh All Ages allows children and families to explore the venue’s immersive rooms while experiencing the acclaimed Van Gogh digital art content in the projection space. During daytime sessions, children can also see a specially adapted documentary exploring Vincent’s life, alongside themed colouring sheets inspired by his work.
From 5.30pm to 8pm, the venue switches to Dream Point After Dark, an adults- only evening experience minus the daytime crowds. Evening sessions feature an extended adult version of the documentary, making the experience much more than a traditional exhibition visit.
“People keep telling us it feels like a proper night out,” says John Gleeson, Co Founder of Dream Point. “You can wander, take photos, enjoy a drink and then lose yourself in the show. For couples looking for something different this Valentine’s Day, it’s also a really special option, and we’d encourage people to book early.” @dreampointexperience
