The New Mood In Beauty For Autumn

What does the new season look like? Overall, we’re seeing a raw, cool and clean approach – the vibe is enhanced natural beauty. That translates to glowing skin, as if “lit from within”, as seen at Tory Burch, gleaming with health.

Strong brows are in evidence, as are hints of glossy textures – a liquid gleam on the eyelids, with a copper tone. And this pulled-back, no-frills look is paired with either plenty of lip balm (Sisley’s Confort Extreme is the dream) or a glorious red lip, as seen everywhere from Khaite and Marni to Tory Burch (above; the red is Nars Dragon Girl Velvet Matte). The blurred finish at Marni is easy to do and a softer, more forgiving way to wear a bright colour.

Beauty at its best can celebrate escapism, and that idea has never been more relevant: colour, playfulness and rebellion provide an antidote to so much that’s serious. Try brilliant jewel-tones for eyes, like the flashes of violet at Saint Laurent, and icy silver on the inner eye at Dior (above) and Gucci.

A punk edge is always worth flirting with – there’s no such thing as too much eyeliner – though only the fearless will go full bleached-brows (championed by Versace and Givenchy). Standout beauty inspiration comes from Simone Rocha – surely the next designer to create a beauty range? – with her signature equation of pretty and tough: plaited, braided hair and glowing, pearly skin set off by black leather. In summary: arm yourself with a brow pencil and a hot red lip colour this season and you can’t go wrong.
