Have you got a beauty advent calendar for 2023 yet? Here are six of the best …

The always luxurious Brown Thomas Beauty Advent Calendar (€300, the same as last year) features 25 skincare, make-up, fragrance and haircare products worth a total of over €1,000. Inside the little boxes you’ll find a mix of full size and travel sizes, with names like Augustinus Bader, Le Labo, Sam McKnight, La Mer and Oribe. It’s a great way to try out a wide range of different items, and they’ll fill your make-up bag (and travel bag) for months to come. Rest assured, you won’t be disappointed on December 25 … www.brownthomas.com.

There are three L’Occitane Advent Calendars available, starting from €72. For the last few years, L’Occitane have excelled in reusable fabric calendars, and this year’s, designed by French illustrator Eva Offredo, is as lovely and enduring as ever, made from 65 per cent recycled cotton (€195). Why doesn’t every brand do this? It’s a great way to avoid all the packaging and waste involved with other calendars. And this one is filled with gorgeous treats, from Immortelle Precious Cleansing Oil to Verbena eau de toilette and Shea certified organic lip balm. If you bought one last year, it’s easy to refill it with a set of replacement products (€140) – a simply brilliant idea. Available online and selected boutiques; limited stock. www.ie.loccitane.com

For sheer range and variety, the Space NK Calendar is a real treasure trove. It features a ton of brands we want to try out, from Nécessaire to Rare Beauty, Boy Smells to Kosas, Eve Lom to Dr Barbara Sturm. This is one for the beauty insider, who knows their brands. You even get an Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim refillable lipstick, one of our favourite things ever. It’s not often you look at a calendar’s contents and find you want every single item, but Space NK has really nailed it this year. And it’s entirely recyclable (all paper, with no mixed materials). €270, at Space NK, Grafton Street, Dublin 2. www.spacenk.com

This year the Boots N07 advent calendar comes in three of your favourite skincare ranges, including Protect & Perfect (€65), so you can choose the collection that suits your skin. There are 14 full-size and 11 travel-size items, ranging from your basic daily skincare to mascara, brow pens and limited-edition lipstick. There’s also an Ultimate Beauty Calendar (€180), featuring Future Renew skincare as well as No7 cosmetics (online only). It is certainly something we are picking up at the pharmacy this week. www.boots.ie

Charlotte Tilbury Diamond Chest of Beauty Stars (€200, up €15 from last year) is always a treat. In this year’s burgundy version, there are two full-size products (less than last year), including the Magic Lip Oil, and a Hot Lips lipstick, plus seven travel-size treats. In Tilbury’s Christmas collection, there are plenty of options for both bigger and smaller budgets. Another tip: the Kildare Village Tilbury pop-up boutique had some of last year’s Chests at a discount, so do stop in if you’re there. www.brownthomas.com

Jo Malone London. At €405, this set of drawers is a serious investment (it’s £350stg). This year it’s gingerbread-inspired, and very smart in signature cream and black; you could re-use the box as a jewellery box. There are two travel candles and some mini colognes in here, plus bath and body treats and a 30ml cologne, worth €64. For the ultimate table settings, the best-selling crackers, each containing three minis, are €40 each. Available at Brown Thomas; www.brownthomas.com.
