You Must Plan A Visit To Airfield Estate This Spring!

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH AIRFIELD ESTATE

An annual pass or voucher from Airfield Estate makes the perfect family gift …

Airfield Urban Farm and Estate in Dundrum, South County Dublin is not just a beautiful place with a remarkable history, it’s also a great example of a sustainable charity, safeguarding nature and investing in people and initiatives that both enrich and go beyond the local community. It’s a gorgeous green oasis that feeds the spirit and the soul.

While those who know Airfield love it, and return time and again, for many it is still undiscovered, which makes a gift voucher or an annual pass to explore this charming oasis a gorgeous gift. We all need more time in nature and this delightful urban farm offers opportunities aplenty, with morning coffee or a lovely lunch to follow a pleasant walk or ramble over the estate.

Airfield offers something for all the family, regardless of age or interests. It comprises a working farm, extensive gardens, farmers market and restaurant and the original Victorian house which was home to Letitia and Naomi Overend who bequeathed the estate to the people of Ireland for education and recreation.

THE FARM AND ESTATE

Visitors are encouraged to explore and experience farm life up close. In addition to its famous herd of Jersey cows, the farm has Jacob sheep, Oxford and Sandy Black pigs, Saneen goats, Rhode Island, Legbar and Araucana hens and chickens as well as two fostered donkeys, Conal and Carroll, from The Donkey Sanctuary, Cork. Included with a general admission ticket is the chance to take part in some of the daily activities on the farm including egg collection, milking and an estate walk and talk.

For garden enthusiasts, the pretty Walled Garden with its decorative pergolas, the Sunken Garden, the potting shed and orchard borders provide colour and inspiration every season. Then there’s the organic food garden which provides produce for the onsite café Overends Kitchen and the excess is also sold at the weekly farmers markets, with its brilliant stalls and community vibe.

This was all part of the plan for the prescient and community-spirited Overend sisters. Letitia and Naomi ran Airfield sustainably; almost every scrap of food was grown or raised on the farm or in the garden. Items were repaired and reused, hardly anything was thrown away. It is Airfield’s intention that the estate becomes a Sustainable Food Hub and the award-winning farm-to-fork Overends Kitchen operates on principles of seasonal, local, sustainable – and zero waste. It’s open seven days a week and also specialises in organising private events and parties.

EVENTS AND WORKSHOPS

For those who want to learn more about what they eat, and new techniques for food preparation, Airfield has an ongoing programme of informative events and workshops.
