The Best €28 We Spent On Beauty This Month

How minimal, chic beauty line Rowse makes cleaning your face a pleasure …

So many new skincare brands, so little time. But sometimes a new one comes along that stops us in our tracks. Rowse skincare, created in Paris, first caught our eye with its beautifully simple and minimal packaging; the Organic Hemp Oil, for example, comes in plain glass with a black dropper, and looks like a bottle of ink. Also, its organic plant-based and fragrant-sounding blends were instantly appealing: who can resist the idea of Organic Neroli Water, a hydrating mist, or a cleansing balm that smells of tangerines?

And yes, the Tangerine Cleansing Balm (€28) is sheer joy. I find some cleansing balms too thick and waxy, leaving a residue on your skin, while others are too plain; I don’t want to pay a fortune for a tub-load of coconut oil. But this Rowse balm has one of the loveliest textures I’ve tried. Not many cleansers make this quotidian routine such a pleasure. This is a little pot of sunshine. Its texture is hard to define, being silkier and less runny than a gel, and more nourishing, due to the plant oils (sweet almond, sunflower seed, lemon peel oil). And it smells divine, with a honeyed orangey natural fragrance. It dissolves make-up gently and leaves your skin clean but not at all tight. I’ve also used it as a lipbalm, and on cheekbones for shine and moisture, and find it to be a great all-rounder.

Rowse also make body oils for different seasons: we’re adding Summer to basket, with its orange, summery smells of monoi, bergamot and neroli. And if you happen to be in Paris in the near future, check out their limited-edition balm for Mother’s Day; it’s a jasmine and apricot oil cleanser and will be available exclusively at Le Printemps Haussman in Paris, as well as Rowse online.

Rowse is lovely and a little different, and the two things I tried out made me want to order the entire line (especially the body oils). Manufactured in small independent labs in Spain, this is considered skincare using responsibly sourced ingredients and processes, and prices are reasonable. One of their organic waters (€22 – choose from neroli or rosehip) alone makes an elegant gift. A lovely new discovery. €5 delivery or free over €70.
