Sustainably Sweet Chocolate

Guilt-free goodness!

Ireland’s leading independent chocolatier and one of the few remaining family-owned chocolate producers in the Irish market, Butlers Chocolates has reached a significant milestone in an ongoing sustainability initiative. By committing to incorporating sustainable practices in the business, Butlers has managed to reduce 15 tonnes of waste annually. Here’s how they did it.

1. Ingredients: Sustainably sourced cocoa and Fairtrade coffee, with zero palm oil in any of Butlers product.

2. Sustainable wrappers: The ever-popular twist wrap truffles have had a revamp, with a new paper wrap that is fully recyclable.

3. Seasonal packaging: The ribbons decorating their excellent Easter eggs are made from recycled plastic bottles and the packaging around the egg is fully recyclable, too. It also protects the chocolate eggs in a more effective way, so nothing will damage the precious cargo!

4. Solar panels: Butlers’ factory roof has over 7000sq.m of solar panels, accounting for over 20 per cent of their annual power requirements. That’s the same size as the Aviva Stadium pitch in Dublin!

5. Environmental impact: A move to electric vehicles and maintenance of zero waste to landfill at the factory.
