What makes a furniture brand sustainable today? Using reclaimed and sustainably sourced materials, utilising traditional craft techniques, making sure to produce design-led pieces that not only look good but are kind to the planet. Award-winning, Copenhagen-based, architect and design company Norm Architects has collaborated with L Ercolani, a sub-brand of UK furniture maker Ercol, to design a new range of sustainable (democratic in design) furniture. Our favourite piece, the Reprise Chair, combines Ercol’s traditional woodturning and steam bending techniques with a classic Danish design from the 1950s. The end result is a graceful, well-constructed, sustainably-sourced wood chair with spindles for the legs and backrest. Closer to home, Irish design company Bunny & Clyde’s contemporary, design-led nursery furniture is made from sustainably-forested solid wood and birch ply.
