Fashion is moving and shaking, says Aislinn Coffey
En tremblant, a French term meaning trembling, was first used in the 18th century to describe jewellery where parts of a set were attached to a “trembler” to create movement when worn. French-Belgian Matthieu Blazy’s AW22 highly anticipated debut collection for Italian label Bottega Veneta, which was based on the idea of luxury in motion, featured silhouettes “that really expressed movement”, as Blazy explained in the show notes. The leather fringing on his coloured leather midi skirts certainly trembled and swayed impressively, for what it’s worth. And in fact, if you look a little closer at this season’s trends, you’ll find fringing, folds, curves and undulating waves on and in, all sorts of items, from bags to benches.
