Refresh Your Beauty Edit With These 7 Big Trends For Spring

From chrome nails to berry lips, spring brings a big make-up refresh, says our beauty editor

1. COLOURFUL EYES

Whatever you wear on your eyes, make it count. Colourful eye make-up is a statement for spring. Forget pastels and try a shock of chalky cobalt blue, as at Mugler (below), for an instant refresh. If blue feels too much, stick with black eyeliner, and plenty of it. Image; Mugler.

Max Factor Masterpiece kohl pencil in Azure, €8.99.

2. GLOSSY HAIR

Smoothed, soft waves and a blunt cut, as at Zimmermann, offer a healthy take on spring hair. Stylist Sykora at Daniel Galvin notes that warmer tones are popular, as are blunt bobs. Pay attention to your scalp for well-conditioned, glossy hair. Image; Zimmermann

3. GLITTER VIBES

This season there’s a sparkly disco vibe. Full sequins are a bit much for the office, but just a hint of shimmer on eyes is the subtle way to go – try Jones Road Sparkle Wash, €22; www.jonesroadbeauty.com.

4. CHERRY LIPS

Cherry and berry-toned lipstick is no longer just for nighttime – worn with fresh skin and pared-back eye make-up, as shown here by Rixo, it looks modern, casual, relaxed. Image; Rixo.

Try a lip tint that blends care with shine: Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment, €24.95, at SpaceNK.

5. NATURAL NAILS

Nail expert Katya at Mink (www.mink.ie) says a naturally healthy and polished look is key for spring. “The biggest trend of the season is a modern French manicure with a thin line of colour, ideally neon or lilac.” Stock up on cuticle oil to keep nails in the best shape; we use L’Occitane Delicate Shea Nail & Cuticle Oil, €16; ie.loccitane.com. Chrome nail finishes are having a moment. Try a topcoat, or go full metal with Essie’s Après-chic, €7.99, at pharmacies.

6. GLOWING SKIN

Central to spring beauty looks is neutral, perfected skin – with a glow. A tall order? Arm yourself with Chanel Les Beiges foundation with SPF, so ideal for spring, €54, or use a glow-enhancing base as a first step (Sarah Keary Radiant Primer, €23; www.sarahkeary.ie)

7. SUNLIT SHADES

It’s been a long winter. Spring beauty looks strive to trap light wherever possible. From amber, peach, copper and icy blue shades on eyelids to a touch of shimmer on lips, look to light-reflecting formulas.

Try Luna Petal Glow Lipgloss, €12; www.lunabylisa.ie, or Trinny London Lip & Cheek Sheer Shimmer, £24stg; www.trinnylondon.com
