in today’s digest: there’s talk of tech outages, plus the trailer for new sadie frost directorial debut, Quant; a documentary about the life of mary quant.
TECHNICAL OUTAGES: Monday evening’s enforced break with our phones has us asking the question, ‘What exactly did we do at night pre-Instagram?’At THE GLOSS HQ, talk turned to how many pages we managed to turn, or — whisper it — the ephemeral magic of a solid eight hours’ sleep. Fellow sufferers of ‘coronosomnia’ will know a night’s tossing and turning isn’t easily solved by counting sheep. However, one stylish distraction comes in the form of this chic and calming bedroom shared by Atelier Vime, aptly described as “a place to read and dream”. The perfect lair for your digital detox; light a candle and finally make some headway in the stack of books piling on your nightstand. (We recommend Richard Osman’s latest sell-out The Man Who Died Twice as a pacy page-turner.)
FASHION ON FILM: Meanwhile, Sadie Frost will make her directorial debut with Quant, a documentary about the designer Mary Quant; pioneer of the mini-skirt, pin-up of the swinging sixties movement. We love her for irreverent quotes like, “Coco Chanel hated me…I can understand why!” The piece combines archival footage with dramatised scenes to tell the life of Quant, who is brought to life by actress Camilla Rutherford. The film debuts at London Film Festival this week and goes on general release at the end of this month. (Watch the trailer for Quant below.) We predict hemlines will rise. Not that we needed much excuse to embrace a pair of thick tights, chunky boots and a playful flash of leg.
