Pinterest’s Top Proposal, Bride And Groom, And Alt Wedding Trends

Engagement and wedding trends for every kind of bride-to-be …

Our favourite moodboard, Pinterest’s 2026 Wedding Trends Report unveils the trends set to walk down the aisle this year. In 2026, weddings are less about following one strict formula and more about niche nuptials – building a world of your own that feels immersive and unique to the happy couple.

In response to over 7 billion wedding-related searches and more than 13.4 billion ideas saved on the popular platform last year alone, Pinterest has launched a new Wedding Week board with more than 400 curated, original ideas featuring over 50 merchants and collaborations with tastemakers for inspiration to guide couples planning everything from the proposal to the big day.

The report reveals that the typical wedding as we know it is being rewritten. The best modern weddings reflect a couple’s personal style with old traditions bowing to more personal celebrations like low-key pre-wedding soirées, speakeasy venues, opalescent palettes and bold new bridal trends.

The key to a perfect wedding? Only take on trends that truly resonate with you.

See some highlights below …

Before ‘I Do’

As we know, the bridal era starts long before the special day. Couples are ditching one-size-fits-all rituals to reflect their personalities, leaning into engagement shoots that feel more candid than staged in formal studio set-ups. The result is a softer, more real-life documentary-style announcement. Couple bingo cards (+175%) rank high in searches as a fun engagement activity, while a garden engagement shoot (+165%) is still popular among the masses.

Unexpected Venues

Ballrooms are making room for spaces with built-in atmosphere. In 2026, couples want venues that feel transportive, immersive and instantly photogenic. From nature-forward escapes and cinematic backdrops to nightlife-inspired settings, weddings are becoming less about formality and more about creating a scene. Many couples are searching for jazz club weddings (+1,115%), forrest terraniums (+185%) and glass greenhouse weddings (+100%), to name a few.

Contrasting Colour Palettes

Wedding palettes are split between grounded and glowing. On one hand, couples are gravitating toward moody, nature-driven tones that feel rich, romantic and organic: think plum, merlot, fig and olive. Plum and olive weddings are one of the top searches with an impressive increase of +1,380%, with muted terracotta at +545%, proving that it never really goes out of style.

On the other end of the spectrum, opalescent finishes and iridescent hues are bringing a fantasy-like sheen to wedding colour stories, with chrome accents, dreamy pastels and jewel-toned depth adding a luminous edge. Taylor Swift fans are likely searching for the opalite aesthetic as it’s seen a whopping increase of +2,710%, with other standout searches including midnight teal (+470%), ‘80s pastel (+220%) and Bridgerton blue (+100%).

Coquette Décor & Sensory Styling

Décor is shifting toward romantic maximalism with a textural edge. Drawing from Pinterest Predicts opera aesthetic, expect layered fabrics, unusual backdrops and experiential moments. Top searches include a drapery backdrop (+1,510%), literary book wall backdrop (+555%) and a stained glass wedding arch (+750%) as a more sustainable option.

At the same time, styling is becoming increasingly sensory: flower bars (+870%), perfume stations (+140%), vegetable centerpieces (+380%) and moss (+90%) or herbs (+65%) make for tactile tablescapes.

Quirky Cakes

Desserts are joining the storytelling too, with cakes getting an upgrade. Couples are leaning into nostalgia, kitsch and visual humour with desserts that feel playful, custom and a little surreal. From flower pot cakes (+715%) and tiramisu wedding cakes (+635%) to whimsical cupcakes (+380%) and even doughnut towers (+95%), you’ll see these variations all over your feed this year.

Analogue Activities & Keepsakes

Hands-on guest participation is back. Couples are bringing in offline entertainment and tactile favours that encourage interaction without relying on screens. These additions also create keepsakes for guests to contribute to throughout the night. Searches for written songs are up +1,975% as people increasingly commission original songs to celebrate their union, while button pictures (+1,140%) and colouring books +105% can all be taken home to remember the day.

Nostalgic Tech Touches

Retro tech is stepping into weddings in a big way. Personalisation is the common theme with couples embracing analogue-inspired details that make guest participation feel tangible and memorable, while still layering in just enough digital storytelling to replay the magic in real time. From projectors (+625%) and newspaper photobooths (+420%) to video guestbooks (+240%) and wedding postboxes (+125%), the mood is lo-fi, sentimental and shareable.

Alt-Bride Styling Touches

Unsurprisingly, the next gen is ditching the “classic bride” look for an alt-wedding aesthetic with dramatic styling, statement accessories and beauty that reads like an editorial shoot in lieu of a step-by-step checklist. Jewellery nails (+300%) and lace wedding gloves (+95%) are still in fashion, while alt wedding rings (+275%) and red veils (+255%) are on the rise.

Alt Bouquets

Bouquets are ditching tradition and adopting a more expressive style with material and shape. We love the idea of bouquet purses (+1,015%) and book flower arrangements (+725%), while beaded (+305%) and embroidered floral bouquets (+205%) double as accessories.

Bridal Accessories Edit

Bridal style is taking a full-accessory approach this year. Ornate headwear anchors the look, jewellery is eclectic, shoes are more striking and finishing touches feel curated rather than conventional. Fascinators (+1,865%), pearl headdresses (225%) and Juliet veil caps (+245%) create wedding looks that stand out. In footwear, ballerina heels (+190%) and heelless heels (+180%) are at the top.

Silver Fox

Men’s jewellery (+890%) is becoming the new boutonnière and silver is stepping in as the go-to metal, seen as a more modern alternative to warm gold. Vintage touches are a vibe, of course, as grooms accessorise with new or pre-loved pinky finger rings (+550%) and brooches (+435%).

Convertible Ceremony Styles

Wedding fashion is shifting toward looks that feel referential and buildable, with dresses becoming more transformable through detachable layers and ceremony-to-reception styling. Drop-waist wedding dresses with corset (+1,405%) are still the top search, while the 1980s influence is on the up with 80s wedding dress searches up +1,090%. Gender-expansive tailoring is going mainstream with halter neck suits (+340%) gaining momentum over halter neck dresses (+145%).

Forget The Tux

Suiting is also moving beyond traditional neutrals with silky pinks (+225%), dusty rose (+155%), iridescent (+145%), sea green (+140%) and ombre suits (+90%) bringing a softer take to formalwear.

Old School Glam

While beauty looks are trending toward glamour with a slightly undone finish, bridal hair is all about soft side parts (+840%) and infinity buns (+245%) with accessories woven directly into the hairstyle – paired with a return to vintage Hollywood make-up (+395%) for full-glam polish.
