This New Homewares Collection is Designed by Emerging Artists – And We Want It All

Vivid ceramics, luxury linens and vibrant wall hangings: Partnership Editions champions homewares as an art form …

“There is a growing public appreciation for homewares as a form of art,” says Georgia Spray. White Cube and Christie’s alumna Georgia Spray is a bit of an anomaly in the art world. Determined to shirk the typical – read: elitist – connotations of contemporary art, Spray established Partnership Editions in 2017. The platform heroes affordable art from emerging artists.

Homewares, she says, are a natural spin-off for the brand. Spray observes how the last eighteen months have calcified our obsession with dressing our homes – arguably, it’s been more in vogue than dressing ourselves. Going into homewares felt not just pertinent to now, but a bit special; not least because the roster of artists Spray works with have worked to create exclusive, one-off pieces to sell on the site.

Homewares as art

In today’s multi-hyphen obsessed culture, it makes sense to add another string to your bow. It’s good for artists to expand into new mediums, Spray believes. “Just like the Bauhaus movement or the Bloomsbury Group, we’re celebrating the idea that art defies mediums and can blur the boundary between form and function,” she says.

A kerry connection

London-based painter Julianna Byrne set to work creating wall hangings which speak to ancient stories and folklore. Each one is a combination of paint and fabric collage on linen. They were inspired largely by Byrne’s memories visiting family in Co Kerry. “I spent a lot of my childhood on the Iveragh Peninsula, where my family are from; the folklore, myths and legends have been an inspiration to me.”

Other artists include Alessandra Chambers, Joseph Dupré and Cecelia Reeve. Shop the full collection here
