“When I buy something I always tell my best friend Emma Kennedy, whom I’ve known since my schooldays,” says Jane Asple, jewellery designer and former buyer for a high street brand. “Over the years, Emma has introduced me to her favourite labels, from Claudie Pierlot to Victoria Beckham. Innately confident, she wears what she likes and what suits her rather than following trends. “Emma has been so important to my life that her name was integral to my brand. Where did the name come from? One day, Emma was dressed head-to-toe from my wardrobe and someone remarked, ‘It’s like you’re styled by Jane, it’s like Emma by Jane.’ I had a name for my business!”
Emma, who manages Grafter, which operates co-working office spaces in Dublin and London says, “Jane likes unstructured, relaxed silhouettes while I am more of a jeans and boots girl. Although we often buy similar pieces – Gallery 9 in Naas is a favourite haunt – we style them differently. My go-tos are scarves, hats and faux furs while Jane is brilliant at accessorising clothes with jewellery. So she’s taught me a lot about investing in key pieces which can be worn differently by styling them in different ways.” This season, Jane is opening an office and showroom in south Dublin and, post-pregnancy, “looking forward to wearing high-waisted jeans, and getting my style mojo back”. www.emmabyjane.com.
