Lilly Higgins’ step by step guide for a yoga mat cleaning spray is something you may have never known you needed. Whether you use your mat for yoga, pilates, stretching or meditation, a fresh yoga mat is always important – freshen up with this homemade cleaning spray.

“The new year is the perfect time for a fresh start, setting out intentions for the coming months. Manifesting and making plans happen. It’s a time of hope and I have some lovely projects to make that happen, from making your own kombucha to ensure good health to making your own gorgeous calendar and journals. Winter is a magical time when we see out the old year and welcome in the new, with plenty of enjoyable projects in between.”

YOGA MAT CLEANER SPRAY

Higgins explains to spray the cleaner directly onto your yoga mat. Use a clean towel to rub away any excess and make sure to leave it to dry completely before rolling it up or using. She chose this combination of oils because it smells amazing and has natural antibacterial properties too. She even provides alternative blends for a more deodorising spray and a relaxing spray, see below.

What You’ll Need:

– 1 x 450ml spray bottle
– 250ml water
– 125ml witch hazel
– 10 drops lavender essential oil
– 10 drops lemon essential oil
– 5 drops peppermint essential oil
– 3 drops tea tree essential oil

Method:

1. Pour the water and witch hazel into the bottle
2. Add the essential oils
3. Shake and spray directly onto the mat
4. Wipe clean using a towel and leave to dry completely
5. Use after each session
6. If you prefer a stronger smell, add more oils, or more of the one you love most.

Alternative Blends

Cleaning and deodorising:
10 drops peppermint and 10 drops patchouli

Relaxing:
10 drops lavender and 10 drops bergamot
