Pop on the subtitles, put up your feet and enjoy …

Love You To Death (Apple TV)

Another Spanish hit, this rom-com drama follows Raúl (Joan Amargós), who was recently diagnosed with cancer and whose world is unravelling. He meets former schoolmate Marta (Verónica Echegui) at a funeral – an interesting meet-cute – who has just discovered she is pregnant. They resume their friendship and decide to navigate life together, so chaos and humour ensues! This will pull at your heartstrings, too.

Snow Girl (Netflix)

Season 2 of this Spanish drama set in Malaga – La Chica de Nieve, an adaptation of Javier Castillo’s novel The Soul Game – will have you looking for answers in all the twists and turns. Journalist Miren Rojo returns to solve another mystery, this time the murder of a teen girl and the disappearance of another. Spanish crime shows always take suspense up a notch, so this won’t disappoint!

Cassandra (Netflix)

This gets a 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes; admittedly, from a small pool, but we trust that score more than Netflix’s trending recommendations! The series follows a family who moves into the oldest smart home in Germany, decades after the original owner dies. This awakens the AI household helper Cassandra (Lavinia Wilson), who will stop at nothing to keep them there. This Black Mirror-esque dystopian romp is one to watch.

The Åre Murders (Netflix)

True Detective meets The Missing … in Swedish!  This five-part series tells the story of a Stockholm detective under internal investigation (a classic tale), who’s also been dumped, so she moves to her sister’s vacation home in Åre. She’s unwinding at this ski resort when a young girl’s disappearance draws her back into work. It ranks seventh in Netflix’s top 10 list and has an 83 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes, so it will have you on the edge of your seat.

The Breakthrough (Netflix)

Another Scandi crime drama, this true-crime thriller has earned its place in the noir genre, with The Guardian praising it as “the best Scandi noir in years”. When a double homicide goes unsolved for 16 years, a detective (Peter Eggers) teams up with a genealogist (Mattias Nordkvist) to catch the killer before it becomes a cold case. If you liked Under The Banner Of Heaven, you’ll love this.
