From new-season jackets and coats to cosy knitwear and leather boots, it’s time to think about dressing for the colder months ahead. What are wardrobe essentials that will see you through winter? At the top of the list is a warm coat or jacket. Shearling jackets dominated the AW24 menswear runways, with Dunhill reimagining the iconic 1970s Starsky & Hutch long-line jacket, while Zegna, Louis Vuitton and Hermès showed meticulously made, exceptionally soft shearling coats, the kind of investment pieces that are passed down a generation. For a contemporary twist, Acne Studios, Yves Salomon Homme and Cos (great reversible aviator-style jackets, from €750) will serve you well. Wool trousers are a welcome autumn alternative to jeans and chinos. Choose a straight-leg pair with a relaxed fit; they’ll soften with wear and quickly become a wardrobe staple.
This season, grey knitwear takes centre stage. Shades of charcoal, slate and elephant flatter all skin tones and are anything but dull. Buy less, buy better, is the name of the game. Now is the time to invest in a pair of well-fitting leather boots. Consider a pair of practical hiking-style boots with rubber lug soles with plenty of grip – they are on trend too, and can be worn with all of the above.
