Gareth McConnell’s photographic works have shown in galleries internationally and he has worked with fashion clients such as Gucci, Dior and Chloe. His latest project? Transforming Jo Malone’s Blossoms collection …
It’s the time of year when the intense colours of nature really hit us, from the bouncy bright yellow of daffodils to the rich regal purple of crocuses and ethereal whites and pinks of billowing blossoms. And the master of capturing and transforming these flowers – and making them entirely unmissable – is London-based Northern Irish visual artist Gareth McConnell, born in Carrickfergus. His new work for Jo Malone London highlights their spring Blossoms collection, inspired by blossom trees in China and designed to “embrace the joys of spring”.

McConnell’s photographic works have shown in galleries internationally and he has worked with fashion clients such as Gucci, Dior and Chloe, as well as in the music industry, and produced various works reflecting his Northern Ireland background. His technicolour images of flowers and blossoms are both otherworldly and down to earth, throwing simple flowers such as daisies and carnations into sharp relief and making them utterly exotic. His psychedelic, acid brights have a flamboyant, joyous intensity, while his Night Flowers have a “strange beauty”.

We highly recommend keeping an eye on his Instagram @garethwmcconnell for new prints. He recently sold prints from his series, The Horses, as a fundraiser for Action for Children UK and often holds print sales of limited-edition runs. We dream of having his blossom prints on the wall to remind us of spring’s transportive beauty all year round.
