Over the years of commuting back and forth to London, I’ve stayed in many hotels on varying budgets. Here’s the list of those that I keep coming back to …

The Hoxton, Shoreditch, Southwark, Holborn, White City
My boyfriend Andrew worked here for years, but I loved it long before that. When I lived near the Shoreditch location, I used to perch in the lobby with my laptop. It’s admittedly more pricey now (my dad once stayed for £50 before heading to Smithfield to collect meat for the restaurant), but every time I check in I’m reminded why it’s so good. I think I’ve stayed in all of their London locations, but Southwark is my favourite – mainly for the rooftop restaurant Seabird, which has some of the best views of the city. I also like it for the proximity to some of my favourite restaurants as mentioned in my South East list in my September newsletter, like 40 Maltby Street, Agora and Camille. They’re also opening a Hoxton in Dublin this winter, right in the centre of town – I’ve been watching the build for what feels like forever and can’t wait to see inside. @thehoxtonhotel

One Hundred Shoreditch, Hackney
This is another cosy lobby I used to camp out in mainly for the big sofas and dim lighting. The hotel itself is modern, with what might be one of the most comfortable beds in London. It’s set just off Redchurch Street and Columbia Road, right above my favourite cocktail bar, Seed Library. Prices vary, but I’ve had some very reasonable stays. It’s also a two-minute walk from some of my go-to restaurants as mentioned in my East London list in my September newsletter – Singburi, Rochelle Canteen and Brawn. If you’re staying, book a massage at Masaj down the road. @onehundredshoreditch

Town Hall, Bethnal Green
A lot of people assume this place is very costly and therefore out of reach, but I have stayed a night midweek for under £200. This is very good value considering the size of the rooms. It’s a perfect base for exploring East London; it being a short walk to Broadway Market, Brick Lane and the Central Line straight into Soho. @townhallhotel

NoMad, Covent Garden
Ok, not exactly budget friendly – but a stay here is worth every penny. This is a proper hotel with turn-down service, heated loo seats (!) and big fluffy robes. Set opposite the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, the location is unbeatable with incredible views. I love being able to check in, drop my bags and wander straight into Soho. The rooms and lobby are so incredible that it’s hard to leave, but make time for their cocktail bar, Side Hustle. Sit at the end of the bar with a classic Margarita for some premium people-watching before heading out for dinner or stay there for amazing Latin American food. I think it would be incredible at Christmas; check in, lunch at the French House, a siesta back at the hotel, then out for dinner and drinks. I’ll definitely be saving up for another stay. @thenomadhotel

Mama Shelter, Hackney
Mama Shelter, just off Broadway Market, is ideal if you’re only in town for a night or two. The rooms are compact but smartly designed, with everything you need for a proper night’s sleep after a long day in London. @mamashelterlondon
