We’re never not transfixed by a striking black dress. Try these stand-out styles from Toteme, 16Arlington, Ralph Lauren and & Other Stories …
If the recent sighting of Lily Allen on the catwalk for 16Arlington wearing a striking black dress didn’t inspire a hearty ‘good for her’ given the content of her latest album West End Girl (for the uninitiated, it charts the dissolution of Allen’s relationship with husband David Harbour after a tumultuous open marriage), it may have inspired you to dig out your favourite black dress from your wardrobe, as Allen cut quite a figure. In reality, Allen’s striking evening dress wasn’t actually black, rather it was midnight navy blue lined in absinthe satin. Although, the name of the dress is Avenge (fitting, no?).
The 16Arlington collection was a collaboration with storied British designer Antony Price, who, throughout the 1970s and 1980s, dressed music greats such as David Bowie, Duran Duran and Bryan Ferry. (According to the brand‘s Instagram, the sculpted shell formation shape at the décolletage was in reference to a collection by Price in 1981.) Regardless, our love of a great black dress – and its ability to own a room – has us in an LBD mood. Shop the styles we love, from high street to high-end, below.
