An elegant alternative to the viral Ralph Lauren tablescaping trend …
“I know the Ralph Lauren look is everywhere this year, and we always have an homage in store, but we’ve been championing the tartan RL hunting-lodge aesthetic for years, so this season I wanted to try something a little different.”
“I designed this gorgeous brown-and-white, wide-striped ruffled linen tablescape for a more contemporary feel. It’s the perfect backdrop for abundant greenery – layered luxe garlands down the centre of the table, foraged acorns and dried rosehip branches all work beautifully with the palette. I’m leaning further into earthy tones with my favourite rattan chargers to add depth, warmth and texture. I introduced iron chunky candleholders for a more modern edge.
I’m hosting the family for Stephen’s Day and the beauty of this look is how easy it is to transform. By simply swapping out the browns and greens for gold accents – changing the chargers, candles, ribbons and a few details – you get a completely fresh tablescape. The best part? This linen tablecloth will work all year round and transition through all seasons with just a change of centerpiece.”
“I’ll be working right up to Christmas Eve, so I love anything that I can prepare in advance to make life easier. I also love something that looks like it took more of an effort than it did, so I’ll make sure to have a “cheat” showstopper in the freezer, like leftover Christmas pudding ice cream! It couldn’t be easier to make: simply combine leftover pudding, cake or mincemeat with a good quality softened vanilla ice cream, plus a shot of your alcohol of choice such as Baileys, port or brandy, then freeze in a pudding-shaped bowl lined with clingfilm overnight. Decorate with a sprig of holly for an added touch.”
