Make it this feel-good soap that’s supporting a great cause …
Lush has launched a fundraising soap to help fund Dog Advocacy Ireland’s efforts to bring an end to puppy farming. The sandalwood-scented soap is €8.50, and 75 per cent of the sales price (minus tax) will be donated to Dog Advocacy Ireland, a not-for-profit organisation, to fund its ongoing campaign for an overhaul of Ireland’s dog-breeding legislation.
A puppy farm is where multiple dogs are continually bred and their puppies sold for profit. Puppies are usually purchased online and exported to the UK, Europe and even as far as Asia at a very young age. Lush says: “Ireland has been coined the ‘puppy farming capital of Europe’. In Irish legislation, there is currently no limit to the number of times a mother can be bred from and establishments can have hundreds of breeding dogs at the same time, which are confined to tiny cages for their whole lives. Current Dog Breeding Establishment guidelines are not mandatory and there are no consequences for breeders who don’t comply. Dog Advocacy Ireland is calling for protection of breeding dogs to be enshrined in legislation, the introduction of a cap of 10 breeding bitches per breeder, a ratio of staff to dogs to ensure puppy welfare, age restrictions on dogs that can be bred, increased inspections and significant fines for non-compliance.”
Lush has a long history of supporting animal rights, fighting animal testing in its supply chain and raising over £100 million for grassroots charities campaigning for animal, human and environmental causes, and much more.
The Paw soap has a soft sandalwood scent, with sandalwood oil sourced responsibly from managed forests mainly in Indonesia, along with neroli and uplifting bergamot oils; €8.50, available in Lush stores across Ireland and online.
