Stylist Ann Marie O’Leary shares her tips for a fresh, heartfelt tablescape …
If you’re planning a Galentine’s get together, follow stylist Ann Marie O’Leary’s lead in creating a simple, yet stunning tablescape. Living on the west coast, she was inspired by what’s unfolding outdoors right now, creating a table designed to feel uplifting and light. Instead of heavier seasonal colours, she chose a soft spring palette of butter yellow, sage and olive – gentle hues that feel hopeful, easy and full of new beginnings.
The styling embraces a resourceful approach. It’s about using what you already have at home. Everyday pieces – from dessert bowls to little bottles and small jars – repurposed as vessels. Natural clear glass is used throughout, with just a subtle touch of soft green to complement the palette.
The flowers are tiered at different heights to keep movement flowing across the table and to allow each bloom its own moment. Small antique finds and charity shop treasures add character – cut-glass salt cellars, mixed brick-a-brack and whimsical glassware. Nothing too perfect, nothing too matching, just collected pieces that feel personal and warm.
As for the choice of flowers, everything was led by what’s locally available and in season. Daffodils, narcissus, primroses and pansies arranged in a way that feels loose and organic rather than overly styled. Moss is incorporated throughout the table to create a living, breathing foundation, adding softness.
The table linen is relaxed, gently ruched for added texture. Ann Marie created this by gathering two or three small folds in the tablecloth and securing them discreetly underneath with a safety pin. From above, it adds depth and romance without feeling formal – an easy trick that transforms a simple cloth into something special.
The overall feeling is light, airy and unforced. An organic tablescape that evolves, just like the seasons and friendship itself. For more inspiration, follow @annmarie_oleary.
