Who said black was just for winter? Luxurious and sexy, as socialising returns you’ll find us reaching for dark glamour in high summer …
A little known fact: sequins are one of the best fabrics you can wear if you’re pale. (The iridescent tone reflects on the skin, giving you a luminous glow.) Great news for those still waiting for their summer tan to come in.

Sequins for summer? Of course, they’re a thing. While we may veer towards blousy florals and bright colours during these months, there’s actually nothing better than embracing a little dark glamour. (Good news for those fashion soberists who never stray from a palette of ebony and charcoal.)
The first port of call? A suitably summer-y but after-dark appropriate dress. At the higher end of the scale, brands like 16 Arlington are masters of frou-frou dressing that flashes a bit of skin (see the brand’s Salm off-the-shoulder dress, below). Equally, high street brands like Zara and H&M are always reliable – we particularly like how Mint Velvet’s take on the hallmark of rock and roll cool, a slip dress, with bra-friendly straps and a flattering V-neckline.

When styling your look remember – summer is about a hint of skin: whether you go for a backless, halterneck or an asymmetric style up-top, sweep on the bronzer and let the final flourish be a glass of Champagne (or Pimm’s).
The easiest way to switch up your look? Jewellery. Nothing is sexier than a dress that flashes some neck, or clavicle, accessorised with a delicate piece of frosting. Right now, silver metals and pearl stones rule the roost. See Sophie Bille Brahe, the Danish jewellery designer who takes a subversive approach to the classic pearl necklace.
As for makeup? A red lip looks just as good when the sun shines. Pair it with a sleek, monochrome outfit for after-dark appeal.
