Make sure to stock up on cocktail napkins (the small ones, about 12cm x 12cm), Marks & Spencer and Søstrene Grene always have smart options. Small plates and cocktail glasses are a must: TK Maxx and Homesense are really good for glassware. Add “WOW” factor with beautiful serveware: you’ll need serving platters that are as pretty as they are functional. Cake stands add drama and can be used for sweet and savoury bites.

A vintage-style tray on a sideboard is a great way to display your favourite spirits and glassware, or serve drinks in style from a fun bar cart: Penneys has a great one for €40. Pre-make a cocktail in a large jug. Incorporate natural elements like a seasonal foliage centrepiece (like cut branches, berries and eucalyptus). Light some candles, create a good playlist and you’re good to go …
