Have You Tried These Cutting-Edge Facial Treatments?

Here’s where to go for expert advice and high-tech skincare options …

In 2021, full face rejuvenation no longer requires surgical procedures with long recoveries. “Now, with huge advances in technologies, techniques and facial products, we are able to safely tweak, lift, smooth and subtly sculpt the skin to offer our patients a fresher, more rested look with minimal downtime,” says Professor Caitriona Ryan, Consultant Dermatologist and one of the founders of the Institute of Dermatologists. “The era of the frozen face is gone! A combination of very conservative anti-wrinkle or filler injections, along with a selection of collagen-boosting, targeted treatments, means that we can achieve a beautifully natural full face rejuvenation that nobody needs to know about.”

Professor Ryan and Professor Niki Ralph launched the Institute of Dermatologists in 2019 with the aim of establishing a Centre of Excellence for medical and cosmetic dermatologic care. A team of seven consultant dermatologists, two plastic surgeons, five specialist dermatology nurses and two facial experts ensure all of your medical and cosmetic dermatological needs are covered.

“As well as our hugely qualified and experienced team, as a Centre of Excellence we are committed to sourcing only the most effective, scientifically proven skincare and advanced technology,” says Professor Ralph. Two of the skincare brands – skinbetter science® and EltaMD – are exclusive, not available anywhere else in Ireland. The Institute also stocks Revision Skincare and the French luxe skincare brand, Biologique Recherche.

As “tweakments” and having a cosmetic “ageing plan” become more popular, Profs Ryan and Ralph are keen to educate people further on the plethora of treatments available, as well as the ease with which certain medical skincare issues can be treated. In September, they launched their podcast, Dermatology S.O.S., to address the breadth of questions they receive in clinic and via social media.

“Irish people are more inclined to suffer with a skin condition for a long time before seeking professional help,” says Prof Ryan. “They may not be happy with their ageing face but they worry that they will look vain or superficial if they address it. We are here to set the record straight really, to share our expertise, highlight dangerous practices within the beauty industry and hopefully give people the confidence to explore their options, whether the issue is medical or cosmetic.”

HIGH-TECH TREATMENTS

In terms of technology, the Cosmetic Suite at the Institute of Dermatologists offers the most effective and innovative treatments available worldwide, overseen by a highly trained team of specialist nurses. One of the most requested and recommended treatments for delivering dramatically younger-looking skin is with the Lumenis M22,?the most advanced IPL model on the market. Another patient favourite is Ultherapy, a non-invasive, micro-focused ultrasound treatment which lifts and tones skin on the neck and under the chin, as well as the decolletage and eyebrows. And for dramatically improving acne scarring, stretch marks and other forms of scarring, as well as addressing fine lines and pigmentation, there’s ResurFX by Lumenis, a fractional, non-ablative laser.

A treatment that has been especially popular post-pandemic is the Platelet Rich Plasma and Exilis Eye Rejuvenation package. It combines all the benefits of collagen-boosting PRP – aka the “vampire facial” – with the lifting and tightening technology of the Exilis 360, making it “the closest thing to a blepharoplasty you can achieve without a scalpel”, say the team.

“Looking the very best version of yourself as you age – fresh-faced, with glowing, youthful skin – is now easier than ever to achieve,” says Professor Ralph. “Just make sure to do your research – not all practitioners are the same.” Book a consultation with the Cosmetic Suite to learn more about the most up-to-date procedures, laser and aesthetic skincare options, from PRP to dermaplaning, hand rejuvenation, IPL and photofractional rejuvenation. Whatever your skin concerns, the Institute of Dermatologists can give you expert advice.
