Have You Discovered These 5 Irish Beauty Brands?

From rosewater-infused skincare to post-workout body treats, here are five homegrown problem-solving beauty and wellness names you need to know …

FOR REDNESS

Last autumn, Irish company Citrine Healthcare launched a range for skin prone to redness, a common issue for Irish skintypes. There’s Rosatrine Derma Light Cream for daily use, and an intensive version suitable for more intense flare-ups. Both are dermatologically tested and feature SPF30 to protect the skin as well as treat. From €17.95 at pharmacies nationwide. And we wrote about Finca Skin Organics recently, which is another Irish option for sensitive and rosacea-prone skin, from tinted SPF30 to skin-calming serums and a moisturising balm rich in fruit and seed oils and shea butter. www.fincaskinorganics.com

FOR NATURAL HEALING

I met Alicja Tomczak of Roza Natural Cosmetics back in April 2017, just after she started her company, inspired by her grandmother’s use of healing herbs and natural ingredients to cure skin problems. After studying environmental protection in Poland, she became more aware of chemicals in skincare, and started to create her own alternatives. Her Hyaluronic Acid Serum (€28) is one of the most affordable on the market and she also has some nourishing hand balms and salves, a fragrant lemongrass body oil plus natural soap bars. Lovely to see her products featuring as part of the Reuzi pop-up at the new Brown Thomas Dundrum store. Find other Irish brands such as Skingredients in the Planet Beauty area of the store.

FOR HYGIENE

Irish-owned brand Spotlight have just launched a steriliser to fit their children’s sonic toothbrush – “We’re all more conscious of hygiene these days, and this is a way to reduce bacteria on your toothbrush,” says co-founder Dr Vanessa Creavan. Spotlight pay a lot of attention to recycling – their floss is made from recycled plastic and is recyclable, while toothpastes are in sugarcane packaging that’s also “super-easy to recycle” (many toothpastes come in laminated plastic tubes). There are some deals on sonic toothbrushes currently available on eu.spotlightoralcare.com. (€80, usually €120).

FOR FITNESS

Dara Scott’s Nuasan body care is made in Galway and is a conscious company, donating ten per cent of profits to sustainable charities and environmental groups. Try the Nuasan Active range designed for after exercise: we love the Body Wash (€19.95) with its bright and uplifting peppermint scent – and we’re also trying the Active CBD Muscle Gel (€34.95), with hemp oil and plant extracts such as eucalyptus and peppermint, to warm and relieve tired muscles. A small brand with its heart in the right place. www.nuasan.com

FOR HYDRATION

Hannah Behan’s new Glow Serum is a vegan product made in Ireland. Cooling and soothing, it contains refreshing rose water, aloe and fruit extracts, plus hyaluronic acid. €28.99, available online at www.sootheskincare.ie

PS Find a good range of Irish brands at Kilkenny Design, from Skingredients to Tipperary-based Dublin Herbalists (try their new, beautifully natural bathsalts with sweet orange and bergamot) and The Handmade Soap Company. There’s also wellness and workout gear, including Flowstate yoga mats (see Emily Cramp of Flowstate’s yoga videos here) and Powercut gym leggings (some colours are currently on sale at www.powercutclothing.com). www.kilkennyshop.com
